The general consensus among college football betting fans is that the SEC is the best conference in the sport. They have certainly proven that to be true over the years, as they consistently have teams in the National Championship hunt. This season really shouldn’t be any different, but it begs the question: which SEC teams will be the strongest this year?
Let’s start off by taking a look at the East division, which has been won by the Missouri Tigers the past couple of years. Missouri figures to be in the hunt again this season, but the feeling is that they are ready to take a step back. That leaves the door open for Georgia, a team that could easily have won the division the past two years were it not for some truly inexplicable losses. Georgia has far and away the best running game in the SEC, and perhaps even college ball, and they should be able to control the clock in every game that they play. Their big question mark is going to be at the QB, where they have yet to make a decision on which of their 3 guys will start. I believe it will be Bryce Ramsay, as his big arm can deliver a deep threat that would be the perfect complement to a great run game.
The fight for second spot in the East should be a good one, but I believe it will be the Tennessee Volunteers who take it over Missouri. It has been a long road back for this program after it was left in a total shambles by Lane Kiffin, but they showed signs last year that they are on the brink of being very good again.
Things are a little tougher to predict over in the West, as that is a division that is totally stacked. Everyone seems to be choosing Auburn to not just win the division, but to also compete for a National Championship. They are definitely a team with good balance on offense and defense, but getting through that division unscathed is a tough ask for any team. There are a lot of unanswered questions about Alabama coming into this season, as the feeling is their talent pool is not as good as it usually is. Nick Saban always does a great job of getting his guys prepared, though, so I expect the Crimson Tide to once again be among the SEC elite. LSU and Ole Miss might also have a say in how things go down in the West.
