2019 CFL Week 10 Odds, Preview & Picks

The Canadian Football League is in the middle of its tenth week of action in the 2019 campaign, and the division races are starting to get interesting. The Hamilton Tiger-Cats are still the class of the Canadian Football League’s East Division, with a 6-2 record — and a perfect 5-0 home record. That 1-2 record away from home could come back to bite them, especially given how they have road tests coming up. Montreal (3-4), Ottawa (3-5) and Toronto (1-6) round out the East standings. Winnipeg is pulling away a bit in the West, leading with a 7-2 record. Calgary, Saskatchewan and Edmonton are in a three-way tie for second at 5-3, with British Columbia in the basement at 1-8. In Thursday’s action, Winnipeg doubled up BC, 32-16. With three more games set for the rest of the weekend, don’t miss our CFL Week 10 betting thoughts on each matchup this weekend in your wagering for the days ahead.

Friday, August 16

Edmonton at Toronto

Edmonton is the heavy favorite despite a 3-3 record in their last six games. Quarterback Trevor Harris continues to click, with 2,631 passing yards and 10 touchdowns against just a pair of interceptions, and at least three scoring passes in five of his last 11 contests. C.J. Gable has been the top runner for the team with 591 yards and a pair of touchdowns. When the offense has fizzled, though, Edmonton has struggled. Their defense has been solid, permitting just 17.2 points per game. Toronto looks to build on a win in their last game and comes in off the bye week. However, they have dropped two of their last three contests at home, and McLeod Bethel-Thompson has thrown nine interceptions to go along with ten touchdown passes. James Wilder Jr is the top rusher — with just 161 yards on the season. The defense has been the real issue, permitting 34.4 points per contest. I don’t see Toronto winning, but can Edmonton cover that line? Final Score Prediction: Edmonton 23, Toronto 17

Saturday, August 17

Hamilton at Ottawa

As we mentioned earlier, Hamilton is just 1-2 on the road this season. Quarterback Jeremiah Masoli needs to improve his ball security as he has seven interceptions against nine touchdown passes. Sean Thomas Erlington is the team’s top ball carrier with 224 yards on 33 attempts for a solid average rushing the ball. The Tiger-Cats have been decent on defense, permitting 21.6 points per game. Ottawa comes in having dropped five of six, including their last three at home. Quarterback Dominique Davis has too many turnovers, with 11 interceptions against just five touchdowns, with just 1,585 passing yards on the year. The Redblacks’ defense has been too porous, permitting 28.1 points per game. Despite Hamilton’s road struggles, it’s hard to see them losing this game. Final Score Prediction: Hamilton 27, Ottawa 20 Montreal at Calgary Montreal has gone 3-3 in their last six games, dropping two of their last three on the road. Quarterback Vernon Adams is having a hard time generating offense, with just five scoring passes on the season. Tailback William Stanback has scored four times and picked up 592 yards. On defense, the Alouettes have permitted 25.4 points per game. They need to improve on both sides of the ball to have a shot at beating the Stampeders on the road. Calgary has won five of seven, including three games in a row. Nick Arbuckle has thrown seven touchdown passes against five interceptions, and the running game has picked up almost 70 yards per game, led by Ka’Deem Carey. On defense, Calgary has brought their permitted scoring average down to 22.5 points per game. Final Score Prediction: Calgary 27, Montreal 17
