2019 NFL Preseason Week 2 Odds, Overview & Picks

Written by on August 12, 2019

We saw a number of pleasant surprises in Week 1 of the 2019 preseason, such as a stellar performance by Cleveland Browns quarterback Garrett Gilbert, whose prowess in the backup role keyed a 30-10 rout of the Washington Redskins. We also saw the Dallas offense look stagnant, as they only put up nine points on the San Francisco 49ers in a loss. Controversy is on the loose again in Oakland, as Antonio Brown does not want to wear the new helmets, but New England looks dominant once again, not even needing Tom Brady to hang 31 points on Detroit on the road. If you are considering the second week of the NFL’s preseason in your sports betting, check out this week’s preview. You’ll note that the Patriots are the only road favorite this week — home teams covered in 11 of 16 games last week, so bear that in mind as you make your picks for NFL Preseason Week 2.

2019 NFL Preseason Week 2 Odds, Overview & Picks

Thursday, August 15

Philadelphia at Jacksonville (7:00pm ET)

Jacksonville got shut out at home by Baltimore last week. And that vaunted defense gave up 29. Uh oh. Give me the Eagles to cover.

N.Y. Jets at Atlanta (7:30pm ET)

That Jets defense made Daniel Jones look good for the Giants last week…so they may have some defensive issues yet to figure out, as do the Falcons, who let Miami score 34. Give me Atlanta to cover.

Cincinnati at Washington (7:30pm ET)

Dwayne Haskins struggled for Washington last week, but the Bengals’ defense got torched in Kansas City last week. I like Washington to cover.

Green Bay at Baltimore (7:30pm ET)

The Pack eked one out at home while the Ravens absolutely smothered Jacksonville. I don’t expect to see much of Aaron Rodgers, so let me have the Ravens to cover.

Oakland at Arizona (8:00pm ET, ESPN)

Arizona has already upset one AFC West team at home this preseason, so why not two? The Raiders have more than enough flaws. Give me the Cards to cover.

Friday, August 16

Buffalo at Carolina (7:00pm ET) I think the Bills have something cooking with their stout defense, and the Panthers remain an enigma. Let me have the Bills to cover.

Chicago at N.Y. Giants (7:30pm ET, NFL Network)

Chicago’s offense looked dreadful at home…and they gave up 23 points to Carolina. I like the G-men to cover.

Miami at Tampa Bay (7:30pm ET)

Miami and Tampa Bay both looked solid moving the ball last week, combining for 62 points in their games. The Buccaneers lost by two on the road, while Miami won by seven at home. Miami will stick more with second-year Josh Rosen, so I like the Dolphins to cover.

Saturday, August 17

Cleveland at Indianapolis (4:00pm ET, NFL Network)

Indianapolis struggled to move the ball in Buffalo. Can Cleveland’s defense do the same thing, with Andrew Luck playing limited minutes? Given the Browns’ quarterback tandem, give me Cleveland to cover.

New England at Tennessee (7:00pm ET)

The Patriots always have a chip on their shoulder, and while the Titans put up 27 on Philadelphia, the Patriots’ defense is much stouter. Give me the Pats to cover.

Kansas City at Pittsburgh (7:30pm ET, NFL Network)

Kansas City hung 38 on Cincinnati last week, and the Bengals’ defense might be better than Pittsburgh’s. Give me KC to cover.

Detroit at Houston (8:00pm ET)

Detroit couldn’t do much right at home against the Patriots, and the Texans have another solid defense with a furious pass rush. I like Houston to cover.

Dallas vs L.A. Rams (in Honolulu) (10:00pm ET, NFL Network)

The Cowboys went 0-4 in the preseason last year and put up nine points last week against the 49ers. The Rams put up a single field goal against the Raiders last week and let Oakland quarterback Nathan Peterman lead the game in rushing. Hmmm. Even so, without Ezekiel Elliott, Dallas will not be able to move the ball at all. Take the Rams to cover.

Sunday, August 18

New Orleans at L.A. Chargers (4:00pm ET, CBS)

New Orleans got 25 points last week without playing Drew Brees, while the Chargers only could score 13 against the woeful Cardinals. Give me the Saints to cover.

Seattle at Minnesota (8:00pm ET, FOX)

Seattle’s attention span in road games is fairly short, and Minnesota hung 34 on the Saints down in New Orleans last week. I like the Vikings to cover.

Monday, August 19

San Francisco at Denver (8:00pm ET, ESPN)

San Francisco got a great game out of their rookie wideouts in a win over Dallas. Denver has a better pass rush but an even softer secondary. I like the 49ers to cover.
