Betting Insights for Monaco

2018 has brought lots of drama in Formula 1. Sebastian Vettel, racing for Ferrari, won the opening two races in Australia and Bahrain. China produced a surprise, as Daniel Ricciardo, racing for Red Bull, picked up his first winner’s trophy of the season, riding through a tumultuous field to win a race despite having an inferior racecar. Mercedes gon a win in Baku, as Lewis Hamilton won, thanks to a safety car popping him into the lead, and he held his position all the way. At the Spanish Grand Prix, Hamilton won again to lead the Drivers’ Standings. Max Verstappen, racing for Red Bull, made it onto the podium for the first time. The last part of the Spanish Grand Prix course resembles the course in Monaco thanks to the curves in play. The Monaco Grand Prix is known for the challenges it presents to people who want to pass because of the narrow and winding streets. Qualifying, then, will be crucial for overall race success, as opening position will have a great deal to say about who wins. Of the last 64 Monaco Grand Prix winners, 54 have been one of the top three qualifiers. The last winner to come from beyond the top three was Olivier Panis, who won way back in 1996, coming up from the 14th qualifying spot. The Red Bull cars have strong positioning in the odds, with Verstappen and Ricciardo featuring 5/2 odds to get the pole in qualifying. Another racer to look at is Vettel, who is always a threat in qualifying and can put in quick laps on street circuits like this one. Raikkonen has had fits at the Monaco Grand Prix, struggling with the course, which is why he is further down the odds board. Hamilton is another strong qualifier, but the course is not well suited for the Mercedes team, which is why Hamilton doesn’t have the odds he might. Fernando Alonso also has a Monaco Grand Prix win on his resume — but he is way down the odds list this year. This is a race that can feature a lot of chaos, as crashes happen left and right on the curvy street circuits, and safety cars can pop out of nowhere to influence the proceedings as well. If the right driver can take advantage of the right situation, this could be a race where someone grabs an upset. That’s why looking at Alonso — who has a win here but is down the odds list — could be a smart value pick.
