Benson Henderson vs Myles Fury

This fight gives us a pair of UFC veterans. Jury has not fought since February 2019 and will make his Bellator debut on Friday. He lost his last two fights, falling to Chad Mendes and Andre Fili. Henderson comes in having won three fights in a row, having beaten Roger Huerta, Saad Awad and Adam Piccolotti. Henderson is on the downward side of a career arc that saw him reach the heights of UFC competition, while Jury had more of a star-crossed experience, never quite living up to his potential. Jury has added weight to move up to lightweight, and this should help him. He has a reach and size advantage over Henderson. He is primarily a grappler, but his striking is more than decent. Myles has turned the striking to his advantage when he has had the reach advantage. Henderson can still go toe to toe, but he has not done well against bigger opponents since joining Bellator. Henderson will try to get Jury on the ground, which should make the size difference negligible. That is how Mendes beat Jury. However, Jury should have the skill and stamina to keep things upright. Bellator 227 Prediction: Jury wins via decision

Blaine O’Driscoll vs Jake Hadley

  • Bellator 227 Odds: TBA
It’s a sleeper fight on this card. O’Driscoll has ridden the rear-naked choke to three straight wins, fighting in Cage Warriors and BAMMA, two of the top regional promotions in Europe. O’Driscoll has seven victories, but he has only seen two of those fights go to the cards. Three of Hadley’s four career victories have also come via stoppage. Hadley is undefeated, but he has not fought at the same level as O’Driscoll. Bellator 227 Prediction: O’Driscoll wins via decision

Michael Page vs Richard Kiely

Page lost to former Bellator Welterweight champ Douglas Lima. Page should win if he can stay on his feet; Kiely will only have an advantage if it turns into a grappling match on the ground. Bellator 227 Prediction: Page wins via decision

James Gallagher vs Roman Salazar

  • Bellator 227 Odds: TBA
One of the top two bouts on the Bellator Dublin part of the card. Gallagher is a local fighters that Bellator wants to promote. He comes into this fight with one career loss, but Gallagher’s was not a good loss, falling to Ricky Bandejas, widely considered to be inferior competition. Gallagher needs to avoid getting lured into a brawl against Salazar. That was Bandejas’ tactic, and it worked. Gallagher does best when he controls the pace of the fight and does not get drawn beyond the pace at which he can throw punches while maintaining defense. Salazar isn’t as good at Bandejas, so I like Gallagher here. Bellator 227 Prediction: Gallagher wins via decision
