CFL Week 12 Odds & Betting Preview

The Hamilton Tiger-Cats have gotten back on track after a difficult middle of the season, winning three in a row to salt away control of the East Division, now sitting at 8-2. Montreal is in second place in the East, 2 ½ games back of Hamilton. Ottawa has fallen off the table with a three-game losing streak and sits at 3-7, while Toronto is in the East basement at 1-8 after losing two in a row. In the West Division, Winnipeg is still in the lead with an 8-2 record, winners of three straight. Saskatchewan is the league’s hottest team, riding a five-game winning streak and holding a 6-3 record. Just a half-game behind Saskatchewan is Edmonton, who lost their last week to fall to 6-4. Calgary completes the West logjam at 5-4, losers of two straight, while British Columbia is in the basement with a 1-9 record, in the midst of a six-game losing streak. This weekend, only six teams are in action, as Montreal, Ottawa and British Columbia have the week off. We have a CFL Week 12 betting preview for each of the three matchups for you to consider.

CFL Week 12 Odds & Betting Preview

Sunday, September 1

Winnipeg at Saskatchewan (3:00pm ET)

Winnipeg has win six of eight, including three of five on the road. Matt Nichols continues to put up solid numbers in the passing game, throwing 15 touchdown passes against just five picks and completing over 71 percent of his passes. Lucky Whitehead and Nic Demski have combined to catch five touchdown passes and pick up 726 receiving yards. Andrew Harris has run for 908 yards and three scores. On defense, the Blue Bombers have permitted just 19.9 points per game. The Blue Bombers face a Saskatchewan team that is red-hot, winners of five straight and three in a row at home. Cody Fajardo has also put together a stout passing game, throwing for 2,112 yards, eight scores and just four picks, with a completion rate over 73 percent. Shaquelle Evans and Kyran Moore have combined for five touchdown receptions. William Powell is the top running back with 597 yards and nine scores. The Rough Riders permit just over 22 points per game, with Charleston Hughes posting 10 sacks on the year. I see Saskatchewan winning — but I also see this potentially coming down to the last possession, so I like Winnipeg to cover. CFL Week 12 Prediction: Saskatchewan 30, Winnipeg 27

Monday, September 2

Toronto at Hamilton (1:00pm ET)

Toronto has had a disappointing season to this point, winless in four road games. McLeod Bethel-Thompson has a 14:9 TD:INT ratio and has completed at least two touchdown passes in five of his last six games, but the problem is that the Argonauts are permitting 34.4 points and 442.4 yards of offense per game. With a defense like that, it has been impossible for Toronto to keep up with the opposition. Hamilton stands ready to take advantage of Toronto’s defensive issues. The Tiger-Cats are 5-0 at home, and while Jeremiah Masoli has thrown seven picks this year, he has a 71.4 percent completion rate and has nine touchdown passes, with Bralon Addison and Brandon Banks his top targets. The Tiger-Cats don’t emphasize the run much, as top runner Sean Thomas Erlingotn has just 224 yards. The Tiger-Cats’ defense is stout, permitting 19 points per game, led by Ja’Gared Davis’ eight sacks. If Toronto is going to snap out of their funk, this will not be the week. CFL Week 12 Prediction: Hamilton 38, Toronto 16

Edmonton at Calgary (4:30pm ET)

Edmonton enters this game with a 4-4 record in their last eight contests and just a 2-3 record in their last five contests away from home. Trevor Harris has been terrific in terms of ball security, throwing just three picks along with 14 touchdown passes, completing 71.3 percent of his passes. He has at least three scoring passes in six of his last 13 contests. The Eskimos’ running game is led by C.J. Gable, with 720 yards and a pair of scores. The Eskimos’ defense has been respectable, permitting 19.8 points per game. Calgary had the bye last week and comes in with a 3-3 record in their last six games. They have won three of four at home. Nick Arbuckle has a pass completion rate of 73.4 percent and has thrown 11 touchdown passes against just five interceptions. Ka’Deem Carey leads the Calgary running game with 204 yards and a pair of scores. On defense, Calgary has permitted 24.4 points per game. Can they win this week? Given that they come in off the bye and play at home, I like them to win a close contest. CFL Week 12 Prediction: Calgary 27, Edmonton 21
