2018 BMW Championship Odds & Betting Preview

Written by on September 6, 2018

A field of 69 golfers (after the withdrawal of Daniel Berger) is set for the 2018 BMW Championship, held on the outskirts of Philadelphia, at Aronimink Golf Club. This hasn’t been part of the PGA Tour’s rotation since the AT&T National in 2011. Since then, the fairways have undergone an expansion to permit the use of angular approaches, and the greens have been expanded. Also, the course has added over 100 bunkers, as the original design featured more bunkers with less surface area in each one, gathered in clustered. The course has added 30 yards and plays to 7,267 yards (Par 70). Five of the par-4 holes are at least 450 yards in length, and three of the par-3 holes are at least 220 yards. With lots of big names in this field, it will be interesting to see who can emerge as the winner. Check out our golf betting suggestions as to which players you should put on your wager list.

Who Should You Look At?

Tiger Woods just was named one of the three captain’s picks for the Ryder Cup, his first selection as a player in six years. He hasn’t won a tournament in years, which is why he slides down the odds sheet every week. However, he has won the BMW Championship twice, and he’s been in the top 15 in his last three starts here. In his last six tournaments, he has four finishes at -5 or better, which means that he is regaining his tournament form. Given the available value on the wager, he’s worth including. Gary Woodland is one of the darker horses on our list. However, he has progressed from a consistent Friday exit to four top-25 finishes in his last five tournaments, and he posted a -7 score at the Dell Technologies Championship. He already has won one tournament this year and could be right there at the end this weekend — and you have to love the value. Jordan Spieth has seen significant struggles in his putting game cause him to fall out of the top tier of the game. However, he is showing signs of returning to elite form, as he has finished no worse than -7 in three straight tournaments. His finish at the 2018 Dell Technologies Championship was his best result since the AT&T Byron Nelson. At the BMW Championship, he has finished in the top 15 four years in a row. So consider putting Spieth down on your betting list. Dustin Johnson is the favorite but does represent some value. He has a -6 finish or better in five straight tournaments and has cracked the top 10 in six of the last eight tournaments in which he has made it to the weekend. He won the BMW Championship in 2016 and finished in the top 10 in 2012 and 2015. Given his reliability, Johnson is worth including. Rickie Fowler has finished at -5 or better in three of his last four tournaments and has cracked the top 25 in six of his last seven outings. He has picked up a reputation for an inability to stay at the top of the leaderboard on Sundays and has a victory drought. However, he has been right there lately, sitting in the top five in three of the last four BMW Championships.
