2019 Wells Fargo Championship Odds & Preview

The PGA Tour moves to Charlotte, North Carolina, this week as Quail Hollow Club prepares to host the 2019 Wells Fargo Championship for the sixteenth time in the last seventeen years. The course underwent some renovations before the 2018 edition, most notably in the first five holes, which used to contain an extremely easy Par 5. The grass on the greens is now G12 Champion Bermudagrass. The course runs 7,554 yards and finishes with a hole called “The Green Mile,” and it played as the fifth-most difficult course on the Tour in 2018. Defending champion Jason Day returns, along with 155 other golfers vying for $1.422 million and 500 FedExCup points. Take a look at the golf betting odds for the contenders as well as our suggestions for your wagering cards.

Rory McIlroy

McIlroy did not play up to his standards at the Masters, but that doesn’t take away from the dominating form he has shown so far in 2019. He won here in 2010 and 2015 and finished second in 2012. He has made the cut seven times and has averaged a sixth-place finish in those seven tournaments. Quail Hollow Club is a course that has suited his talents, and given that record, despite the fact that his value as the favorite is somewhat low, you have to include him.

Jason Kokrak

Kokrak is definitely a dark horse this week. He has played the Wells Fargo Championship seven times — but only made the cut three times, and he has only cracked the top 25 once. Why should you take him this week? He has six top-25 finishes in his last seven tournaments, and Charlotte is his hometown, so he should have familiarity with Quail Hollow Club and the weather this time of year. With those taken together, I’m adding him to my card.

Phil Mickelson

He has not been one of our recommendations in a while, but he put together a solid showing at the 2019 Masters Championship, and he has historically enjoyed playing at Quail Hollow Club. His worst finish in 15 starts here has been 35th, and he came in fifth at the Wells Fargo Championship in 2018. In his last four starts at the Wells Fargo Championship, he has an average finish of 7.8. He’s been hanging around on Sundays lately, so I’m taking that value and betting on him.

Lucas Glover

Speaking of dark horses, he represents a lot of value for someone who has made the cut 11 times in 15 starts at the Wells Fargo Championship. He came in second in 2009 and won the whole thing in 2011. He has three other finishes in the top 10, including the 2016 edition. In his last 15 events, Glover has cracked the top 20 a dozen times. Given his form right now and his history at this event, I’d jump all over those odds.

Justin Rose

Rose sputtered to a +4 at the Masters and has only made three cuts in his last events. That’s a bit of a drop from the dominance he had shown before that. He did come in fifth here in 2014 and third in 2016 — the last two times he entered this tournament. He has said at press conferences that he enjoys playing at Quail Hollow Club. Can he revert to his dominance from early 2019 here? If you think so, then you should add him to your card.
