Top MLB Betting Picks of the Week – June 10th Edition

The Los Angeles Dodgers are the class of the National League right now, leading the West by 11 games over Colorado and Arizona and sitting at 45-21, seven games ahead of the next division leader in the senior circuit, which right now would be the Chicago Cubs and the Milwaukee Brewers, tied atop the NL Central. Philadelphia is 37-28, a game ahead of Atlanta in the East but having dropped six of ten. In the American League, Houston is the top team right now, leading the West by 9 ½ games over Texas (winners of seven of their last ten). Minnesota leads Cleveland in the Central by 10 ½ games, and the Yankees and Rays are tied atop the East with identical 40-24 marks. What can we expect over the coming week? Check out our MLB betting picks from Major League Baseball.

Tuesday, June 11

Pittsburgh at Atlanta (7:20pm ET)

  • Projected Pitching Matchup: Chris Archer (3-5, 5.20 ERA) (PIT) vs Mike Foltynewicz (1-5, 5.89 ERA) (ATL)
Pittsburgh will start Chris Archer on Tuesday, which means he will see the Braves for the second consecutive start. On June 6, he scattered six hits and two walks, allowing just one run on a solo shot and striking out six, over six innings, in a 6-1 Pirates win. Before that, though, Archer had permitted last least four earned runs in five consecutive starts and failing to strike out more than three in all but one of those starts. Can he hold the Braves’ offense in check so soon after seeing them? The Pirates could use another one of these starts that hearken back to Archer’s dominant performances in Tampa Bay. Atlanta counters with Mike Foltynewicz. His ERA is even more unsightly than Archer’s, but he only permitted three of the six Pittsburgh runs in that June 6 loss. If you take out a six-inning, no-earned-run start against St. Louis on May 24, Archer has permitted 24 earned runs in 31 ⅔ innings, with 10 home runs permitted over that stretch. Given the reputation that Foltynewicz built as an ace last year, will he get back on track? The Braves could use some of his dominant stuff as they try to catch up with Philadelphia in the division. MLB Betting Prediction: Atlanta 8, Pittsburgh 5

Milwaukee at Houston (8:10pm ET)

  • Projected Pitching Matchup: Freddy Peralta (3-2, 5.11 ERA) (MIL) vs Brad Peacock (5-3, 3.20 ERA) (HOU)
Freddy Peralta has resurrected his season after a series of three starts that saw him permit 16 earned runs over 10 ⅔ innings in April and early May. Since May 7, he has permitted just four earned runs in six starts, striking out 27 men while walking just three, and permitting just a single home run. In his last start, on June 6, Peralta held Miami to just one run on four hits, striking out nine and inducing eight ground-ball outs. Can he have similar success against the high-flying Houston offense? The Astros will start Brad Peacock on Tuesday. Peacock’s numbers have been terrific this season, with just two starts in which he permitted more than two earned runs. He has only permitted five earned runs over his last six starts, although some scuffling performances from the Houston offense have kept him from getting more wins, as the bullpens have had to carry the day. On June 5, the Astros lost 14-1 — but Peacock only permitted two earned runs in five innings to start the game. Given the fact that this is an interleague game, both pitchers should have an advantage at least the first time or two through the lineup, so I’m expecting a pitcher’s duel that Houston’s bats can win late. MLB Betting Prediction: Houston 3, Milwaukee 2
