Why should you bet on the Blue Jays?

Aaron Sanchez was particularly impressive in his last start, scattering three hits and permitting just a single earned run over eight innings as Toronto beat Baltimore, 2-1, back on April 10. In his first two starts of the year, though, he got touched up for seven earned runs in 11 ⅔ combined innings. When he faced the Yankees on March 30, he gave up four earned runs on eight hits, also issuing four walks, in 5 ⅔ innings. However, his numbers since then show that he is finding his command. Toronto has played well on the road this season, winning series in Texas and Baltimore. They also beat Cleveland last Friday on the road (with the rest of the series wiped out by rains). Against the Yankees, they have struggled to find consistent results, winning just six of their last 12 meetings, but in the last 10 games between Toronto and the Pinstripes at Yankee Stadium, New York has scored two or fewer runs in five of those games. With Sanchez on the hill, it’s a good probability that this trend will continue on Thursday.

Why should you put your money on the Yankees?

C.C. Sabathia returns from the disabled list to start on the mound for the Yankees. He had had hip issues that forced him onto the shelf after just two starts. His first start of the season was against these same Blue Jays, and he lasted five innings, permitting just one earned run while striking out four. However, in 2017, he put up a 6.23 ERA against Toronto in 21 ⅔ combined innings. The hope is that figuring out Sabathia’s hip issues will help him return to the form that boosted the Yankees to a wild card finish last year. The Yankees are also hoping for some more consistency on offense. A day after shelling the hapless Marlins, they were held to one run by one of the less powerful pitching staffs in MLB. The Bronx fans have started booing Stanton after his failure to live up to their expectations in the early going of this campaign. Given his immense talent, he is likely to turn things around and start slamming balls out of the park like he did in Miami, but this is still a young team looking to find consistent performance. If you like the Yankees here, you see them getting onto Sanchez early and putting up enough runs to give Sabathia a comfort zone in his return from the DL.
