Top NBA Betting Picks of the Week – November 6th Edition

Written by on November 6, 2018

Remember when the Dallas Mavericks were 2-1? Well, they’ve gone on a six-game slide since then, and now sit at the bottom of the Western Conference standings with a 2-7 record. Golden State remains at the top of the conference with a 9-1 record, having won seven straight, but right behind them are the surprising Denver Nuggets, sitting at 8-8. Houston is starting sluggishly with a 3-5 record, but they have won their last two games. In the East, Cleveland continues to miss LeBron James, with a 1-8 record, while Toronto (9-1) and Milwaukee (8-1) are playing at a blistering pace right now. What can we expect to see in the Association this week? Take a look at our NBA betting previews of these three matchups.

Tuesday, November 6

Milwaukee at Portland (10:00pm ET)

The Milwaukee Bucks had roared out to a 7-0 start before running into a wall in Boston to lose, 117-113, to a Celtics team that is having a hard time winning consistently out of the gate. They responded nicely, though, by coming home and delivering a 35-point demolition of the Sacramento Kings on Sunday night. In that game, Giannis Antetokounmpo put up his second triple-double of the young season, posting 26 points, 15 boards and 11 helpers. The change at the head coaching position seems to have worked wonders, and we’ll see how it holds together as the Bucks head out west. Portland saw a nice three-game winning streak (which included victories in Indiana, Houston and at home against New Orleans) come to an end as the Lakers came to town and delivered a 114-110 upset. However, the Trail Blazers also rebounded to beat Minnesota by 30 the next night, behind Jusuf Nurkic’s 19 points and 12 rebounds. Consistency inside is what the Trail Blazers will need if they plan to make it to the next level in the postseason, and I’m not sure if they’re ready for what Milwaukee is bringing. NBA Betting Prediction: Milwaukee 111, Portland 107

Dallas at Utah (9:00pm ET)

The optimism that greeted the arrival of Luka Doncic in Dallas has not taken long to dissipate, as an early pair of wins over Minnesota and Chicago has been followed by a six-game losing streak, with the most recent setback coming on Friday as a young New York Knicks team came to town and beat the Mavericks by 12. The core of Dennis Smith Jr, Doncic, Harrison Barnes and Wesley Matthews, with DeAndre Jordan in the middle, is a promising one, but things aren’t gelling nearly well enough for the Mavericks to contend yet. Utah beat Dallas two weeks ago on the road by nine and now prepares to welcome the Mavericks to the higher altitudes of Salt Lake City. The Jazz haven’t won since then, though, losing to Minnesota, Memphis and Denver, and they host Toronto on Monday before welcoming the Mavericks two days later. The Jazz showed some fatigue down the stretch in their loss to the Nuggets but have some rest and some home cooking before Dallas shows up. NBA Betting Prediction: Utah 109, Dallas 101

Minnesota at L.A. Lakers (10:30pm ET, ESPN)

Minnesota’s West Coast road swing has not gone well at all, as they lost at Golden State by 17 and then by 30 at Portland on Sunday night. They did beat the Lakers when they played them at home last weekend, prevailing 124-120. However, the drama surrounding the Jimmy Butler situation may well have played havoc with regard to the team chemistry. The Timberwolves have the talent to compete but need to work together better than they are to win games. They visit a Lakers team that has won two of three, knocking off Dallas and Portland before losing at home to Toronto on Sunday night, 121-107, in a game in which Kawhi Leonard did not play. The Lakers are looking to build some consistency with the arrival of LeBron James and look like a possible playoff team. Can they take advantage of a road-weary Timberwolves team? NBA Betting Prediction: Los Angeles 111, Minnesota 106
