Top NBA Betting Picks of the Week – October 29th Edition

Written by on October 29, 2018

The Milwaukee Bucks and the Toronto Raptors stand atop the Eastern Conference at this point in the 2018-19 NBA regular season, with identical 6-0 records. The Boston Celtics sit at 4-2, and the Philadelphia 76ers sit at 3-3, as those two contenders have some kinks to work out. Life is unpleasant for the Cleveland Cavaliers, who are 0-6 in the post-LeBron era. In the Western Conference, there is no surprise that Golden State has jumped out to a 6-1 record to lead the standings, but the upstart Denver Nuggets are in second place at 4-1, tied with New Orleans. Dallas jumped out to a 2-1 start but has since dropped three in a row, and Oklahoma City seems to miss Carmelo Anthony badly, as they are just 1-4 so far. Let’s take a look at your best NBA betting picks for the coming week in the Association.

Top NBA Betting Picks of the Week – October 29th Edition

Monday, October 29

Atlanta at Philadelphia (7:00pm ET)

Atlanta has started with just two wins in their first five games, and the inconsistency has been considerable. Their three losses, to New York, Memphis and Chicago, have been by a combined 45 points (with no singled-digit losses), but then they went to Cleveland and won by 22 and dug themselves out of a 26-point hole to beat Dallas at home. Rookie Trae Young may be the face of this inconsistency, as he is showing flashes of brilliance, alternating with some ghastly decisions. The Hawks visit a Philadelphia team that has opened 3-3, also struggling to find their way in the early going. They took an 18-point whipping at the hands of the Boston Celtics in their opener, and then routed the Bulls before beating lowly Orlando by 1 at home and then losing by one in Detroit — and getting routed in Milwaukee. A home win over Charlotte was cause for optimism, as Joel Embiid erupted for 27 points and 14 boards and Robert Covington and J.J. Redick both nailed clutch shots from downtown to seal the win. Philadelphia has the talent to rout the Hawks, but do they have the consistency yet? NBA Betting Prediction: Philadelphia 110, Atlanta 101

Tuesday, October 30

L.A. Clippers at Oklahoma City (8:00pm ET)

The Clippers are riding high right now, winners of four of their first six — and their last two wins have been by a combined 52 points, as they routed the Rockets down in Houston by 20 and then came home to dismantle the Washington Wizards by 32. In that win over the Wizards, Tobias Harris put up 22 points and 11 boards. Doc Rivers’ system seems to be working so far as the Clippers are finding plenty of offense at this point in the season. The Oklahoma City Thunder finally picked up their first win of the season on Sunday, as they got 23 points apiece from Paul George and Russell Westbrook in a 117-110 win over Phoenix. It’s a little troubling that the Suns were able to put up 110 points without Devin Booker in the lineup, but getting 20 points and 15 boards from Nerlens Noel is definitely a positive sign for a team struggling in the early going. NBA Betting Prediction: L.A. Clippers 118, Oklahoma City 111

Wednesday, October 31

New Orleans at Golden State (10:30pm ET)

The Pelicans suffered their first loss of the season on Saturday night as the visiting Utah Jazz delivered a 132-111 thumping. New Orleans opened their season most impressively, beating Houston on the road by 19 and then putting up 149 points on Sacramento, but each win after that became more tenuous, with a two-point win over Brooklyn showing some weaknesses ahead of that loss to Utah, which Anthony Davis had to miss with an elbow sprain. He remains day-to-day, so you’ll want to check the latest injury reports before wagering on Wednesday’s game. Golden State has won four in a row since their two-point loss in Denver in the third game of the season. They have won those four games by a combined 76 points, with a six-point win in Brooklyn the closest of the set. In the last three games, Steph Curry and Kevin Durant have gone a combined 77 for 132, and Curry had seven three-balls in the win over Brooklyn. With that sort of offensive production, the Pelicans will more than have their hands full. NBA Betting Prediction: Golden State 128, New Orleans 119
