2019 College Football Week 3 Odds, Overview and Picks

Written by on September 9, 2019

The boos are just getting louder at Rocky Top, as the Tennessee Volunteers followed up their historic loss to Georgia State with a loss to Brigham Young this past Saturday. LSU was able to hold off a strong challenge from the University of Texas on the road and was rewarded by getting bumped up to #4 in the nation. Clemson did not find Texas A&M nearly as challenging this year as they did in Week 2 a year ago. Cincinnati headed to Ohio State with, perhaps, some thoughts of pulling off a huge surprise but found themselves on the wrong end of a 42-0 tattooing. Arkansas started the Ben Hicks Era at quarterback, but that would only last a half, as Hicks ended up on the bench, and Ole Miss routed the Razorbacks. What can we expect to see this week for College Football Week 3? Don’t miss our sports betting picks for this week ahead.

2019 College Football Week 3 Odds, Overview and Picks

#6 Ohio State at Indiana

The Buckeyes have delivered big routs over Florida Atlantic and Cincinnati to start the 2019 campaign. They start their Big Ten slate with a trip to Indiana, and the Hoosiers have bedeviled the Buckeyes the last few times they have met — not by winning straight up, but by keeping things close longer than the Buckeyes would have liked. Given the way in which the Buckeyes have handled their first two contests this season, I’m liking Ohio State to win and cover.

#2 Alabama at South Carolina

Alabama has also skipped through its first two contests with relative ease. Now they head east to take on an SEC foe that lost to North Carolina in their opener. What about that 25-point spread? I see the Tide covering it unless some sort of disastrous injury takes out a skill player or two, because the Gamecocks’ defense has not been good the first two weeks. Give me Alabama to win and cover.

#19 Iowa at Iowa State

ESPN GameDay will be in Ames, Iowa, this week for one of the best football rivalries in all of college football. Iowa State is currently unranked but really is one of the top 30 teams in the nation. This game is better when both teams are playing well. Given that the Cyclones are at home, I will take Iowa State to win and cover.

#1 Clemson at Syracuse

Syracuse beat Clemson at home two years ago, and they almost beat Clemson on the road in 2018, as the Tigers had to mount a furious comeback to avoid the loss. However, Syracuse does not look as solid this year after a 63-20 loss to Maryland this past weekend. With that said, strange things seem to happen whenever the Tigers and Orange clash, and the Clemson offense has not looked dominant in the first two weeks. Give me Syracuse to cover.

#20 Washington State at Houston

This Friday night affair is in Houston but is in the Texans’ stadium (NRG Stadium) instead of the University of Houston’s campus. Neither coach in this game cares much for defense, so I expect this matchup of two different teams of Cougars turning into a track meet. Houston hung with Oklahoma and made the game interesting late. Can they surprise Washington State on a Friday night game? I say yes. I like Houston to cover.

#21 Maryland at Temple

The Terrapins have scored 142 points in their first two games in 2019 and (as mentioned above) just beat Syracuse by 43. Temple routed Bucknell in their opener…and now comes off a very early bye week. I don’t see them staying within a touchdown of Maryland, even at home. Give me Maryland to win and cover.

Arizona State (+11) at #18 Michigan State

We predicted Michigan State’s upset loss in the desert last year, and now the Spartans will be spoiling for revenge. Their defense may be the best in the nation, having permitted -6 yards of total offense through two games. I like Michigan State to win and cover.
