Why should you bet on the Hawkeyes?

Iowa has rolled to a 2-0 start to the 2019 campaign, thanks in part to a solid scheme and in part to an easy non-conference slate to this point. Quarterback Nate Stanley has done a solid job with ball security, as he has six touchdown passes but has yet to throw an interception. Iowa is traditionally a running offense, but Stanley has thrown at least three touchdown passes in six of his last 11 contests. His top targets have been Mekhi Sargent and Ihmir Smith-Marsette, who have combined to score three touchdowns. Sargent also leads the team in rushing with 150 yards and a score on the ground. The Hawkeyes’ defense has been ironclad, permitting just seven points per game behind Kristian Welch, who leads the team with 16 tackles. Iowa has covered in five of their last six non-conference games and in five of their last seven road games. In their current four-game winning streak over the Cyclones, they have won by an average margin of 16.5 points. However, Iowa State has not covered in five of its last seven contests as the favorite. This is the Cyclones’ home game, and they had a very early bye in their schedule that allows them a week of preparation, even if the rest is not yet necessary.

Why should you put your money on the Cyclones?

Iowa State comes in on a seven-game home winning streak. Through one game, quarterback Brock Purdy has 278 yards and a pair of touchdowns, with no interceptions. In his career, he has thrown for 18 touchdowns. Charlie Kolar and Deshaunte Jones combined for 18 catches in the opener, and Johnnie Lang is the top runner with 60 yards. The Cyclones’ defense has been more generous so far, permitting 26 points in their opener. Marcel Spears Jr leads the team with nine tackles. Momentum has to be building for Iowa State as far as motivation goes, as they want to end this four-game losing streak, particularly since they have been getting drilled in these losses. Iowa State has not covered in five of their last seven games as a favorite, but Iowa has also failed to cover in six of their last eight games as the underdog. Given how well Iowa State has played at home over the last two seasons, and given their overall improvement as a program, it’s hard to bet against them, especially at home. Iowa State has covered in 15 of their last 22 game against Big Ten opposition — but they have not covered in any of their last six games. With a small spread like this one, though, you are basically looking for the straight up winner.

Expert Pick and Final Score Prediction

I see this game turning out a lot closer than the previous games in this series, and I see the Cyclones riding that home field advantage to a close win. I predict a final score of Iowa State 24, Iowa 21.
