Oklahoma at Kansas State Week 8 NCAAF Lines & Game Info

Written by on October 18, 2017

The Oklahoma Sooners bounced back from their home loss to Iowa State with a gritty 29-24 victory over the University of Texas in the Red River Rivalry at the Cotton Bowl in Dallas on Saturday. The Sooners still have a shot at a slot in the College Football Playoff if they keep winning, and the next team on their schedule is Kansas State, who comes in at 3-3 after losing at home to TCU last week by a 26-6 tally. The two teams met last year down in Norman, when Oklahoma rolled to a 38-17 victory. Should you include this game in your college football betting for the week? Check out our prediction for this Big 12 matchup, along with it’s NCAAF lines.

Oklahoma at Kansas State Week 8 NCAAF Lines & Game Info

When: Saturday, October 21, 2017, 4:00pm ET Where: Bill Snyder Family Stadium, Manhattan, KS TV: FOX Radio: Sooner Sports Radio Network / Kansas State Wildcat Sports Network Live Stream: FOX Sports GO NCAAF Lines: Oklahoma (-12.5)

Why should you bet on the Sooners?

Oklahoma has one of the most dynamic offenses in the nation. Against Texas, they gained 518 yards of total offense, including 344 passing yards. Baker Mayfield went 18 for 28 on the day and threw a pair of touchdown passes, giving him 17 for the season. He did throw his first interception of the season, though, and this week he faces one of the best defenses in the Big 12. Kansas State has made a reputation of getting the most out of a roster that isn’t always as talented as some of the top powers in the Big 12, and playing at home will give them some momentum. However, Oklahoma has shown that they can score big on the road — just ask Ohio State. The questions for Oklahoma come on defense. They were unable to slow an Iowa State offense led by a backup quarterback two weeks ago. When they played at still-winless Baylor, they gave up 41 points — but were fortunate enough to score 49 and take the win. Against Texas, they had a 20-point lead but could not keep Texas from chipping away until the lead was just five, and the Longhorns had a late drive into Sooner territory only to fall short late. Over their last three games, the Sooners have permitted a combined 103 points. But can Kansas State take advantage?

Why should you put your money on the Wildcats?

Kansas State had a lot of factors working against them last week in their loss to TCU. The start of the game was delayed for three hours by lightning storms, and then the game itself featured a lengthy lightning delay. The Wildcats were only able to run for 70 yards — and their running game has been a staple of their offense. Quarterback Jesse Ertz is also the team’s leading rusher, but he will miss his second game in a row this week. Alex Delton struggled last week starting in relief of Ertz. Ertz’s knee injury is expected to keep him out against Oklahoma, so Delton will need to work hard to take advantage of a Sooner defense that will give up plenty of yards if the opposing offense can test them. Is Kansas State a safe bet in Week 8? Kansas State has a solid defense — against a dynamic TCU team, they permitted just 395 yards. However, the team has permitted 86 points over the last three games, and that sort of performance won’t be acceptable against Oklahoma, because I don’t see Kansas State cracking 30 against this defense. The Wildcats just don’t have the weapons to pull off that type of performance, and the Sooners are likely to be working to make a statement for the College Football Playoff committee each week until the end of the season.

Expert Pick and Final Score Prediction

Kansas State has a history of surprising teams at home. However, Oklahoma has already fallen into their “trap” game of the season, so I don’t see them stumbling again over Kansas State. I predict a final score of Oklahoma 38, Kansas State 20.
