Week 11 Preview: New England at Oakland NFL Odds & Analysis

Written by on November 16, 2017

The Oakland Raiders meet the New England Patriots in Mexico City for an important AFC contest on Sunday afternoon. The Raiders come out of the bye week after a 27-24 win over Miami two weeks ago and need more wins to stay in the playoff picture. The Patriots have won four games in a row, most recently routing the Denver Broncos on the road last week, 41-16. The teams last met in 2014, with the Patriots emerging with a 16-9 win. This game will feature a Patriots team that has a dynamite offense and an iffy defense against a Raiders team that has a sputtering offense that can score in bunches on occasion and an equally inconsistent defense. Check our NFL odds prediction on this game before you commit to your wagers for the weekend.

Why should you bet on the Patriots?

Tom Brady continues to play as though he still has several years to go before reaching the 40-year age mark that he already has attained. He went 25 for 34 last week, putting up 266 yards and three scores without a pick. He leads the National Football League with 2,807 yards on the season, with 19 touchdown passes against just two interceptions, and he has not thrown any picks since Week Six. Brady has welcomed the return of Rob Gronkowski this season; against Denver, he hauled in four passes for 74 yards. With Dion Lewis, Mike Gillislee and James White carrying the ball and catching passes in the flat, the New England Patriots have a wealth of weapons despite the loss of Julian Edelman for the season and the inconsistent play of Danny Amendola. The Patriots’ defense spent much of the first half of this season ranked dead last in passing yards permitted per game. They did look better against Denver, permitting just 221 yards through the air, but the Broncos were using Brock Osweiler at quarterback, after Trevor Siemian had become ineffective and Paxton Lynch was unable to take the field because of shoulder issues. The Raiders will bring Derek Carr, who is a much more effective quarterback, particularly when it comes to finding receivers down the field.

Why should you put your money on the Raiders?

Derek Carr had a fairly solid game against Miami two weeks ago, going 21 for 30 for 300 yards and a score (but also a pick). He has thrown seven interceptions this year (against 13 touchdowns), which means that ball security is more of an issue this year than it was last year. Marshawn Lynch has run fairly well, picking up 323 yards in eight games, but he has not been the featured back that the Raiders thought they were getting. Tight end Jared Cook has broken the 100-yard mark in receiving yards in two of his last three games, and Amari Cooper remains a dangerous target down the field. Are the Raiders a safe bet against the Pats in Week 11? The Raiders had a terrific pass rush last season, and on paper they have similar talent this season, but that has only turned into 13 sacks this year, good for #31 in the NFL. The secondary has had some issues in coverage, which has led to some big plays for the opposition. The unit has played well in spurts, but Oakland needs those spurts to turn into consistency if they want to beat Tom Brady.

Expert Pick and Final Score Prediction

New England looks like they have solved some of their issues on defense, and their offense has been terrific from the beginning. I see the Patriots taking care of business in Mexico City and coming back with a 37-27 win over Oakland.
