2018 NFL Preseason Week 3 Sure Winners

Written by on August 20, 2018

With Week 3 of the NFL preseason, we usually see teams putting out their starters for most of the game, with reserves coming on in the fourth quarter, as this is the dress rehearsal for the regular season. That means that for sports betting enthusiasts, this is the week that you can bet most in line with the tendencies that teams will show for the regular season. There are always some exceptions, but that’s the best way to wager this week. We have a few teams that we see coming out on top in their 2018 NFL Preseason Week 3 matchups, so take a look before you commit to your pro-football wagers.

2018 NFL Preseason Week 3 Sure Winners

Friday, August 24

  • N.Y. Giants at N.Y. Jets (7:30 pm ET)
These two teams share MetLife Stadium, but the place will be decked out in green and white as the Jets are the designated home team. The Jets fell, 15-13, to Washington in the second week of the preseason but shut out the Falcons in their preseason opener, and they have a defense that should be able to shut down a Giants’ attack that may hold out rookie tailback Saquon Barkley another week. On offense, the Jets have plenty to prove after only putting 13 against the Redskins, and they have three quarterbacks in Sam Darnold, Teddy Bridgewater and Josh McCown who are all trying to prove that they deserve playing time in the regular season. That combination leads me to pick the Jets to win.
  • Green Bay at Oakland (10:30 pm ET, NFL Network)
The Packers visit Jon Gruden 2.0 and the Raiders, and while Green Bay’s defense isn’t quite as solid as Oakland’s is, particularly in the secondary, this will be Aaron Rodgers’ time to shine against an Oakland secondary that also had issues last season. I’m not convinced that Derek Carr is back to that fine form he had during the 12-4 season that ended with his broken collarbone, but I do know that when Aaron Rodgers is in a game, the Packers are going to be just one drive away from winning. Give me the Packers’ system over the continuing adjustments that the Raiders are making, so I’m taking Green Bay to win in the 2018 NFL Preseason Week 3.

Saturday, August 25

  • Kansas City at Chicago (1:00 pm ET, NFL Network)
Pat Mahomes II dazzled with his arm in the Chiefs’ Week 2 win, and that confidence should boost him as the Chiefs head to Chicago to take on the Bears. Chicago is still trying to figure out what they have with Mitch Trubisky at quarterback, and their secondary will be tested by Mahomes’ ability to create plays while moving the pocket — or using his legs when the rush forces him out. The Chiefs are favorites for the 2018 NFL Preseason Week 3 against the Bears. He is one of the most exciting quarterbacks in the league right now. While there’s always uncertainty late in the game for the Chiefs thanks to Andy Reid’s bizarre game management strategies, I see Mahomes doing enough damage during his time on the field to lead the Chiefs to win.
  • Atlanta at Jacksonville (7:00 pm ET)
The Jaguars took down Minnesota last week by a 14-10 score, and Blake Bortles had 159 yards through the air in limited action, an impressive total against a Vikings defense that was tops in the NFL last year. Atlanta is now 0-2 in the preseason and couldn’t score at all against the Jets. So things look to be moving slowly for the Falcons, while the Jaguars may be right where they left off a year ago. A confident Blake Bortles could wreak havoc in the AFC South, and he could find plenty of problems to cause for the Falcons. Will we see better offensive game planning and execution from the Falcons this week? They will need it if they want to contend in the NFC South because the Saints and Panthers look hungry. I’ll take Jacksonville to win in the 2018 NFL Preseason Week 3.
