NFL Divisional Round Parlay Picks and Betting Analysis

Written by on January 16, 2024

For the 24 teams who will be watching the NFL Divisional Round at home, thinking about the 2024 season has already begun. Several teams have openings at head coach, while some more might open in the coming days. Bill Belichick, who parted ways with New England after the Patriots missed the playoffs, has interviewed with the Atlanta Falcons, the first known meeting that the 71-year-old architect of the Patriots’ dynasty has had. He has 29 seasons of head coaching (24 with the Patriots and five with the Cleveland Browns), posting a 302-165 record and six Super Bowl championships.

Belichick’s name has also been tied to a vacancy that does not exist yet as Mike McCarthy’s future in Dallas has become quite grim. He did lead the Cowboys to an historic achievement, but probably not the type that Jerry Jones wants to brag about, as the Cowboys became the first team ever to win 12 games in three consecutive seasons but fail to advance at least to the conference championship in any of those. Heading into the divisional round, don’t miss these chances to spice up your sports betting payout with these promising NFL parlay picks.

One Upset, One Demolition

This 9 ½-point spread respects what the Baltimore Ravens were able to do in beating San Francisco by 20 and beating Miami by almost 40 in the closing weeks of the regular season. Is it large enough to respect the beating that Houston put on Cleveland at home in the wild-card round, though? Does it show an awareness of what the Texans have put together at the close of this season? Edge rusher Will Anderson Jr has the Texans’ defense creating havoc all over the field, and while Lamar Jackson is so much more mobile than Joe Flacco, he will throw interceptions when under duress. I think that Jackson will find enough holes in the Houston zone defense for the Ravens to sustain drives and score points, but I’m not sure this point spread reflects the realities at work in both teams. We don’t have another winter storm set for this weekend, and I think the Texans are tough enough to push the Ravens hard in the snow.

Can the Green Bay Packers make it two huge upsets in two weeks? They took advantage of a Dallas team that, once again, had absolutely no mental toughness in the playoffs, a trend that is about to enter its fourth decade. It felt like the Cowboys thought they could cruise to an easy win, but San Francisco (and just about every other elite team in the NFL) does not approach games with the same complacency and entitlement that marks Dallas’ attitude. The 49ers have a better tailback than Dallas did in Christian McCaffrey. They have a quarterback who didn’t fold under pressure in the playoffs in his rookie season, and the defense has tighter intermediate coverage and a better pass rush.

NFL Parlay Pick: Texans to cover, 49ers to win and cover.

Points for Everyone

Tampa Bay hung 32 on Philadelphia in their wild-card win. The Eagles’ secondary had major struggles in coverage, and Baker Mayfield took advantage. Both of these teams have some issues when it comes to the secondary, and I see both Mayfield and Jared Goff making hay down the field. The Lions have the better rushing game, so they will have a more balanced attack, but this is a game that could open up in a hurry. It’s in a dome, which means the cold, swirling winds won’t slow down the passing attacks, and the temperatures won’t lead to injury after injury, which seemed to be the order of the day in the cold-weather games this past weekend.

The last time the Bills and Chiefs met in the playoffs, the offenses exploded in the second half, with the Bills actually scoring too quickly in their last possession in regulation. That gave the Chiefs time to zip back into field goal range, tie the game, and then win in overtime as the Bills’ defense was too gassed to keep Patrick Mahomes from leading a touchdown drive, leaving the Bills the losers without having a chance to touch the ball. That led to a rule change for overtime, but I still see these two offenses taking off. Tyreek Hill is gone from the Chiefs, but Rashee Rice has emerged as the next great Kansas City wide receiver, and they still have Travis Kelce. Stefon Diggs is still a dangerous receiver in Buffalo, but the tight end tandem of Dawson Knox and Dalton Kincaid was the difference against Pittsburgh, at least in the early going.
