2019 NFL Preseason Week 3 Odds, Preview & Predictions

Written by on August 19, 2019

Some of the preseason games in the NFL went as we predicted last week. Cleveland rolled to a win, thanks to a terrific game from backup quarterback Garrett Gilbert. Dallas defied expectations, scoring their first touchdown in a preseason game in almost a year and delivering their first preseason win since 2017, knocking off the Rams in Hawaii, 14-10. Now we head into Week 3, which is generally the dress rehearsal for most teams. You can expect to see the starters for as much as a half, even the skill players, so this is as close to the regular-season look as you will get when it comes to NFL betting on pro football. Check out the matchups with NFL Preseason Week 3 odds and our thoughts on each game.

2019 NFL Preseason Week 3 Odds, Preview & Predictions

Thursday, August 22

N.Y. Giants at Cincinnati (7:00pm ET)

The Giants have won both of their preseason games, as Daniel Jones has been a pleasant surprise at quarterback, and the Giants’ defense has been reasonably solid. Cincinnati is the only AFC North team that doesn’t have a 2-0 preseason mark, but in a dress rehearsal, I see the Bengals’ defense as having enough to win this at home. I’m taking the Bengals to cover.

Washington at Atlanta (7:30pm ET)

Washington is struggling to move the ball, and with Colt McCoy’s injury, Case Keenum is the top quarterback on the depth chart. Dwayne Haskins has had a hard time operating behind an iffy offensive line. However, Atlanta has gone 0-3 in the postseason, including a loss in the Hall of Fame Game. With this game in Atlanta, though, I see the Falcons getting that firest win. I like Atlanta to cover.

Carolina at New England (7:30pm ET)

New England is 2-0 in the preseason with a +33 point differential. Carolina has gone 1-1, and their offense still has a lot of questions to answer. Gillette Stadium is not usually a good place for visiting teams to sort out their questions. I like the Patriots to cover.

Baltimore at Philadelphia (7:30pm ET)

Baltimore’s defense has been stout in the preseason so far, permitting just 13 points in two games. The Eagles have had some struggles moving the ball, and so if the Ravens can keep the pressure on, they should get a road win. Ravens to cover.

Green Bay vs Oakland (in Winnipeg) (8:00pm ET)

Oakland doesn’t have much in the way of attention span away from home, but they do have a 2-0 preseason slate. Given their drama with Antonio Brown, though, it’s hard to see the Raiders focused enough to beat the Packers at a neutral site. Packers to cover.

Jacksonville at Miami (8:00pm ET, FOX)

The Jaguars have a -43 point differential through their first two preseason games, which is not a good sign given the reliance they are making on their defense this season. Miami is 1-1 so far with a +5 point differential, and I see them doing enough at home to send the Jaguars to 0-3. Dolphins to cover.

Friday, August 23

Cleveland at Tampa Bay (7:30pm ET)

Until someone stops them, or until they play someone who has an established system of winning, I like the Browns to cover.

Buffalo at Detroit (8:00pm ET, CBS)

Buffalo is 2-0 in the preseason, while Detroit is 0-2 with a -35 point differential. Buffalo has a lot of swagger on both sides of the ball, while the Lions are looking like a team in search of a scheme. I like Buffalo to cover.

Saturday, August 24

Arizona at Minnesota (1:00pm ET, NFL Network)

Arizona is 1-1 in the preseason, but in a dress rehearsal against a multi-pronged Minnesota offense, I don’t see the Cardinals keeping up. Vikings to cover.

Houston at Dallas (7:00pm ET, NFL Network)

Houston takes these games a lot more seriously than Dallas does, and Ezekiel Elliott is still holding out, a trend that may continue after Jerry Jones taunted his star running back in the wake of the team’s win over the Rams. Texans to cover.

Chicago at Indianapolis (7:00pm ET)

Chicago and Indianapolis have both looked like a mess in the preseason so far, although the Colts are the only team missing a starting quarterback thanks to Andrew Luck’s ankle troubles. Bears to cover.

New Orleans at N.Y. Jets (7:30pm ET)

Both of these teams have split their first two preseason games, but Taysom Hill is a lot better backup quarterback than the Jets’ pupu platter. Saints to cover.

San Francisco (NL) at Kansas City (8:00pm ET)

San Francisco won their lone preseason game over Dallas. The 49ers should protect Jimmy Garoppolo from much game time in this matchup, so I like the Chiefs to put up a lot of points in the first half. Chiefs to cover, when the line opens.

Denver at L.A. Rams (9:00pm ET)

  • NFL Preseason Week 3 Odds: NL
I’m staying away from this game personally, because the Rams have looked listless in both preseason games, and Denver is rebuilding…but if you really want to pick in this one, go with the home team. Rams to cover.

Seattle at L.A. Chargers (10:00pm ET, NFL Network)

Seattle works hard to win preseason games — but they don’t do much on the road. Chargers to cover.

Sunday, August 25

Pittsburgh at Tennessee (8:00pm ET, NBC)

Pittsburgh is 2-0 so far, including a win over Kansas City last week. The Titans have gone 1-1. Pittsburgh has a slight edge at the skill positions, but the Titans could take advantage of home field as the reserves take over in the second half. Titans to cover.
