2019 NFL Week 8 Odds, Overview & Picks for Every Game

Written by on October 21, 2019

Jimmy Garopollo is 11-2 in his first 13 starts at quarterback for the San Francisco 49ers. That’s a lot better than Joe Montana (4-9) and it’s better than Steve Young (7-6). The 49ers are now one of two unbeaten teams left in the NFL, along with the New England Patriots, and the time has come to get rid of the idea that they are a fluke. Neither is Kyler Murray, who all of a sudden has the Cardinals at 3-3-1. The next time Doug Pederson wants to make a prediction for a Philadelphia Eagles game, maybe he will think twice, as the motivation woke up a moribund Dallas team, who delivered a surprising 37-10 rout on Sunday Night Football. What can we expect to see in NFL Week 8? Don’t miss our NFL betting thoughts.

2019 NFL Week 8 Odds, Overview & Picks for Every Game

Thursday, October 24

Washington (+16.5) at Minnesota (8:20 pm ET, FOX/NFL Network)

Since the 2013 season, Washington has played in 22 prime time games. They have won five straight up and have covered five. So far in 2019, they have covered twice in seven games. Minnesota has covered in 15 of their last 20 at home. Vikings to win and cover.

Sunday, October 27

Seattle (NL) at Atlanta (1:00 pm ET, FOX)

Matt Ryan’s status is questionable after his ankle injury against the Rams, which is why no line has posted yet. Matt Schaub is the Falcons’ backup, but even if Ryan plays, the Falcons have covered once in seven games this season. Seattle to win.

Philadelphia (+1.5) at Buffalo (1:00 pm ET, FOX)

The Bills have been favored 13 times since 2017, winning 11 straight up and covering seven times. The Bills have also covered in seven of their last nine. With that said, Philadelphia has won seven of their last eight against AFC opposition. However, the Eagles’ secondary is banged up, and their offensive line is porous. Bills to win and cover.

L.A. Chargers (+6) at Chicago (1:00 pm ET, FOX)

It has been 49 years since the Chargers have won a game at Soldier Field. They have covered once in seven games this season, while the Bears have covered in 17 of 24 at home. The Bears looked dreadful against New Orleans but should have more room against that Chargers’ defense. Bears to win and cover.

N.Y. Giants (+7) at Detroit (1:00 pm ET, FOX)

Minnesota has covered in 16 of their last 20 games as a home favorite, and they have covered in seven of their last 10 overall. New York has covered seven times in their last 11 games when an underdog of seven points or more. Detroit has enough, though, to manage the Giants’ offense. But check Kerryon Johnson’s injury status before you lock in your wager. Lions to win and cover.

Tampa Bay (+3) at Tennessee (1:00 pm ET, FOX)

Tennessee gave up the winning “touchdown” to the Chargers on Sunday twice, only to have the referees bail them out. Tampa Bay has covered in five of their last six road games against AFC opposition, and they come out of the bye this week after tough divisional losses to New Orleans and Carolina. Buccaneers to cover.

Denver (+6.5) at Indianapolis (1:00 pm ET, CBS)

Joe Flacco looks like he has already retired, given the lack of energy he shows at quarterback for the Broncos. On the road, Denver is dreadful, covering just six times in their last 21 games away from home. Indianapolis has covered four times in six games this season, and I see them rolling over the listless Broncos after that emphatic win over Houston. Colts to win and cover.

Cincinnati (+12.5) vs L.A. Rams (in London) (1:00 pm ET, CBS)

The underdog in the international NFL series has covered 8 times in the last 24 games. Under Sean McVay, the Rams have a 9-0 record straight up against AFC foes, covering six times. The Bengals aren’t showing much fight at all these days, and the distraction of the trip may dim their focus even more. Rams to win and cover.

Arizona (+7.5) at New Orleans (1:00 pm ET, CBS)

Did you know that New Orleans has covered in 16 consecutive games in October? Did you know that Arizona has covered in seven of ten road games? One of these trends is going to fall, and I like what Kyler Murray is bringing to the Arizona offense. Cardinals to cover.

N.Y. Jets (+4.5) at Jacksonville (1:00 pm ET, CBS)

The Jets have covered just five times in their last 15 road games. However, Gardner Minshew finally looked human against Cincinnati on Sunday. Can Sam Darnold deliver another big upset? I say yes. Jets to cover.

Carolina (+6) at San Francisco (4:05 pm ET, FOX)

Carolina comes out of their bye riding a four-game winning streak — but to face a perfect San Francisco team on the road. Carolina starting quarterback Kyle Allen has won all four of those games (all Carolina covers). San Francisco has not dealt well when favored by a lot, as they have covered just once in nine times as a favorite by at least six points. Even so, I like the Niners’ defense to figure out Allen. San Francisco to win and cover.

Cleveland (+10) at New England (4:25 pm ET, CBS)

New England has covered 11 of the last 15 times they have been double-digit favorites, and in 39 of their last 62 games at home against AFC opponents. However, Cleveland has covered four times in their last five games on the road — and they come out of the bye to face the Patriots. It’s hard to trust the Browns given how bad their losses have been, though. Patriots to win and cover.

Oakland (+7) at Houston (4:25 pm ET, CBS)

Oakland is not a good road team, having covered just four times in their last 18 games out of the Bay Area. Houston has won straight up and covered in three straight games against teams from the AFC West. Texans to win and cover.

Green Bay (+3) at Kansas City (8:20 pm ET, NBC)

Matt Moore against Aaron Rodgers? Don’t worry about the trends. Packers to cover.

Monday, October 28

Miami (+16.5) at Pittsburgh (8:15 pm ET, ESPN)

Mason Rudolph will return to lead the Steelers’ offense as Pittsburgh comes out of their bye to host the Miami Dolphins…who held a nice lead over Buffalo before reality set in. However, I don’t think Pittsburgh can win by this many points with a backup quarterback. Dolphins to cover.
