NFL Betting Predictions for Last Weeks of the 2018 Regular Season

Written by on December 13, 2018

As we enter the last three weeks of the 2018 regular season in the National Football League, we see one conference that is almost set for the postseason, in the NFC, and one conference that has a lot of wide-open possibilities in the AFC. Even the AFC’s best team, the Kansas City Chiefs, has shown, at times, an inability to mount even a modicum of defense against opponents and has had to score at video-game pace to win games. Over the last few weeks, we have some predictions that you can use for your NFL betting considerations.

NFL Betting Predictions for Last Weeks of the 2018 Regular Season

Cleveland will win at least two of their last three games

The Browns go to Denver, host Cincinnati and go to Baltimore to finish out their regular season. Now that Baker Mayfield is feeling more and more confidence at the helm of the Cleveland offense, it’s hard to argue that any of these three teams have what it takes to stop him. Denver did knock off Pittsburgh a couple weeks ago, but the Browns tied the Steelers in their opener (and would have won, if they had had a kicker who could find the space between the uprights) — and that was with Tyrod Taylor at the helm. They’ve already beaten the Bengals and Ravens once. If the Browns could finish at 8-7-1 and some other teams fall off the table, a Browns postseason appearance could become one of the great stories of 2018.

The Chargers will catch the Chiefs

The Chiefs have a crazy offense, but their defense is a major vulnerability. When the two teams met out in that soccer stadium where the Chargers play, the Chiefs won by 10, but we’ve seen the Chiefs’ defense get more and more vulnerable since then, while the Chargers have gained confidence. After they play the Chiefs on Thursday, the Chargers host the Ravens and then finish the regular season in Denver. If the Chargers can win out and go 13-3, and the Chiefs lose one other game, the Chargers would win the AFC West, but even if they finish in a tie with the Chiefs and head to the wild card, they go in as a more balanced team — and would be my pick if they met the Chiefs in a divisional round game.

Detroit will win at least two of their last three games

The Lions have the easiest remaining schedule of the eight teams in the NFC who are on the postseason bubble, as they visit Buffalo, host the Vikings and then finish the season at Lambeau Field. The Bills just gave up a 17-6 lead at home last week and lost to the Jets, and the Lions are a more complete team than the Jets, even at 5-8. Then they host a Vikings team that, all of a sudden, can’t move the ball. They finish at a Green Bay team that should be eliminated by Week 17 and will have little motivation at the end of a season in which they fired their head coach. Could an 8-8 Lions team take the last wild card? They need all sort of help, but they have a great shot to win two of three if not sweep the rest of their slate.

Watch out for the Green Bay Packers

Right now, the Pack sit at 5-7-1. They fired a head coach in the middle of a season for the first time in 65 years when they showed Mike McCarthy the door after that home loss to Arizona. But they won last week — and the four teams ahead of them in the wild card standings all lost last week. Their offense last week showed a terrific balance of running and passing, and Randall Cobb was actually healthy and put together a solid outing. The big test comes on Sunday, as the Packers head to Soldier Field. If the Bears win, the Packers are done. The Bears have won six of seven at home this season. However, Aaron Rodgers has not lost in Chicago since 2010. Five years ago, the Packers went to Chicago with a 7-7-1 record and beat the Bears, taking the division title. Could they do it again? Absolutely. If they win that, then they head to New York to face the Jets and then would host Detroit, a schedule that the Packers could sweep with the momentum of a win over the Bears.
