Chiefs vs Broncos 2019 NFL Week 7 Odds & Betting Pick

Written by on October 14, 2019

Dating back to 1960, the Kansas City Chiefs (who were the Dallas Texans then) have played the Denver Broncos a total of 118 times, including meetings in the AFL and NFL, as well as regular season and playoff contests. The Chiefs have won 63 times so far, against 55 for the Broncos, and the Chiefs have won seven straight in this series dating back to 2015. The teams last met on October 28, 2018, as the Chiefs won, 30-23. This season, the Chiefs are on a two-game losing streak, having lost to Indianapolis and Houston at home the past two weeks. Denver comes in at 2-4, and in prime time, the Broncos have been dreadful, covering just four times in their last 15 games at night. Can the Chiefs right the ship? Or will the Broncos pull off the upset? We have your NFL betting preview.

Why should you bet on the Chiefs?

Few teams can put up points in a hurry like Kansas City can. After all, they roared out to a 17-3 lead over Houston after the first quarter — before they gave up 20 points in the second quarter and went to the locker room down six. The key comes in the trenches; when the Chiefs’ offensive line follows their assignments, things go well, and they can move the ball quickly. However, it does not take much in the way of deception for opposing defenses to plug up the gaps on the run game and apply pressure to Mahomes — who still looks like his left ankle is not at 100%. While Denver has won two weeks in a row, remember that they started the year 0-4. Yes, some of those losses came on last-second field goals, but Joe Flacco is having a hard time moving the ball consistently. If the Chiefs get back to that defense they were playing in the first four weeks of the season (and given how much they are paying their free agents, they should be able to do this), they should be able to go up to Denver and take the win.

Why should you put your money on the Broncos?

How do you beat the Chiefs? You expose their dreadful running defense. The Broncos’ top tailback is Phillip Lindsay, who has picked up 397 yards through six games, averaging 4.7 yards per attempt, and has scored four touchdowns on the ground. He has also caught 19 passes for 147 yards. Royce Freeman has 284 rushing yards, averaging 4.3 yards per carry. Denver averages 116 yards per game, good for 15th in the league. The Broncos should have both of their top receivers, as Emmanuel Sanders should return after leaving Sunday’s game with a knee injury. Sanders has 25 catches for 307 yards and a pair of scores, and Courtland Sutton has done even better, with 30 catches for 477 yards and three scores. On defense, the Broncos stood tall on Sunday, posting their first shutout against 2017, picking up seven sacks. The Chiefs didn’t do much to protect Patrick Mahomes II in their loss to Houston, so the Broncos could take advantage and apply pressure as well.

Final Score Prediction

Joe Flacco has things moving better in Denver the past two weeks, although the two teams that he has beaten (the Chargers and the Titans) are in dumpster fire mode right now. The Chiefs are headed that way after losing to the Colts and the Texans, but if Andy Reid is the head coach that people keep saying he is, he should find the right adjustments to go to Denver and get the win. I predict a final score of Kansas City 33, Denver 20.
