Eagles vs Falcons NFL Week 2 Lines & Game Prediction

Written by on September 10, 2019

The Atlanta Falcons opened their 2019 campaign with a disappointing loss to the Minnesota Vikings, as their high-octane offense could not get going. They also lost first-round draft pick Chris Lindstrom to a foot injury in the opener, a blow to their offensive line. After his departure, the Falcons permitted four sacks of Matt Ryan and could not open up holes for their ground game. The Philadelphia Eagles dug themselves a hole in their opener in Washington but ended up rallying to beat the Redskins on the road. They did lose defensive tackle Malik Jackson, but they have Tim Jernigan and Hassan Ridgeway ready to fill that gap. Which explosive offense will take the win in Week 2? Take a look at our sports betting preview of this NFC tilt.

Eagles vs Falcons NFL Week 2 Lines & Game Prediction

When: Sunday, September 15, 2019, 8:20pm ET Where: Mercedes-Benz Stadium, Atlanta TV: NBC Radio: Westwood One Live Stream: NFL Game Pass NFL Odds: Philadelphia -1 / O/U 51

Why should you bet on the Eagles?

Carson Wentz had a solid game in the Eagles’ opener, throwing three touchdown passes without a pick, gaining 313 yards in the passing game. He has at least two touchdown passes in seven of his last eight games. Darren Sproles only ran for 47 yards in the opener, but as a team the Eagles ran for 123 yards, a solid total. The Eagles’ defense struggled in the first half but ended up tightening things up as the game went on, so they only permitted 27 points for the game, led by seven tackles from  Nigel Bradham. Philadelphia has covered in four consecutive road games, five times in their last six games overall, and four times in their last five games against NFC opposition. In their last 18 meetings against the Falcons, Philadelphia has covered 12 times. The Philadelphia defense can be as good as the Vikings’ defense and just needs some more consistency in order to put up more impressive games. If you like Philadelphia, you see Atlanta continuing to get a subpar performance out of their offensive line and the Eagles taking advantage of issues in the Falcons’ secondary.

Why should you put your money on the Falcons?

Atlanta is just 4-4 in their last eight games at Mercedes-Benz Stadium. Matt Ryan did throw for 304 yards in the opener, along with a couple of scoring passes, but he also had two costly interceptions. Mohamed Sanu caught five balls, Julio Jones had a touchdown, and Calvin Ridley and Austin Hooper also had solid games, but the issues for Atlanta come in the red zone, when the line production seems to break down, stifling both the running and passing games. On defense, Atlanta permitted 28 points to a Minnesota team that had a hard time getting things going last year. Atlanta has covered just twice in their last seven home games and just twice in their last nine games overall. However, the home team has covered in the last four meetings between Philadelphia and Atlanta. In addition to Lindstrom’s injury, Matt Gono is questionable because of a back issue, so the Falcons’ O-line will have some depth issues from the get-go. This is an interesting line because of the talent that the Falcons have on both sides of the ball. However, the Eagles also have a lot of talent, particularly on defense, and the Falcons will have to play much better to stay close to the Eagles here.

Expert Pick and Final Score Prediction

Like many sports betting prognosticators, I have a lot of questions about Carson Wentz’s long-term durability as a franchise quarterback. However, when he is in the game, the Eagles move the ball — and he looked like his old self in the opener. I like how the Falcons look on paper, but I question how they produce when the pressure hits. I see the Eagles picking up a second consecutive road win to start the season, with a final score of Philadelphia 30, Atlanta 27.
