Eagles vs Rams NFL Week 15 Odds & Game Preview

Written by on December 12, 2018

The Philadelphia Eagles head west with their postseason hopes on the line, as any loss (or any win by Dallas) would eliminate them from winning the NFC East, and a wild card slot would be most unlikely because of the record of the Seahawks, Vikings and several other NFC contenders. They take on a Los Angeles Rams team that has slipped out of the top slot in the NFC thanks to a 15-6 loss at Soldier Field on Sunday night. Can the Eagles continue the Rams’ struggles, or will the Rams take out some frustrations on a depleted Philadelphia secondary? We have your NFL betting preview right here.

Why should you bet on the Eagles?

The road has not been particularly kind to Philadelphia, as they have dropped four of five away from Lincoln Financial Field. Even so, they pushed Dallas to overtime last week, as both defenses fell apart in the second half. Carson Wentz has thrown 21 touchdown passes against just seven picks and has at least two scoring passes in 15 of his last 19 games. Wideout Golden Tate III is still finding his way in the Eagles’ offense, but Zach Ertz is having another All-Pro season at tight end. The running game took a major blow when Corey Clement went down with a knee injury against Dallas. The Eagles’ defense has played well, permitting just 22.7 points per game, but can they hold the Rams in check? Philadelphia has covered just once in their last six games against NFC competition and just once in their last five games overall. However, they have covered in four of their last five road games against the Rams and in ten of their last 11 meetings overall. This nine-point spread is fairly large and assumes that the Rams’ offense will get back on track after the Bears shut it down. If you like the Eagles, you think that Carson Wentz can match Jared Goff, like he matched Dak Prescott last week, and the Eagles’ offense can mount a similar pass rush and force turnovers again.

Why should you put your money on the Rams?

Los Angeles has a 6-0 record at home this year, and a big reason for that is the addition of Brandin Cooks to the wide receiving corps. He has combined with Robert Woods for 2,080 receiving yards and eight scores, and Jared Goff has put up 27 touchdowns against just 11 interceptions. The running game is also stellar, thanks to the 1,203 yards that Todd Gurley II has already piled up (along with 15 touchdowns). The Rams’ defense has not been quite as stout as it was last year, permitting 24.1 points per game, despite the 16 ½ sacks that Aaron Donald has racked up this season. The Rams have not covered in any of their last four home games (despite winning them straight up) and have just covered once in their last six games. One reason for this is the lopsided wins they stacked up in the early going, but four of the Rams’ last six wins have been decided by no more than five points. When the Rams have been favored by at least a touchdown, they have only covered twice in their last six opportunities. The Rams do have the offense to run roughshod over the Eagles, but I question whether their defense can build that much separation from Wentz and the Philadelphia offense.

Expert Pick and Final Score Prediction for Eagles vs Rams

I like the Rams to deliver the win and eliminate Philadelphia from NFC East contention, but it will be harder than the spread indicates. I predict a final score of Los Angeles 30, Philadelphia 27.
