Giants vs 49ers NFL Week 10 Lines & Pick

Written by on November 9, 2018

The New York Giants have not won since Week 3, when they went down to Houston and surprised the Texans with a 27-22 win. Since then, they have dropped five in a row, including a 20-13 setback at home to Washington last week. The greatness of rookie tailback Saquon Barkley is basically the only offensive highlight that they have produced so far this season. Their defense is serviceable, but their offensive line has a hard time protecting Eli Manning in the pocket, and his age is showing. The Giants head west to take on a 49ers team that reversed a six-game losing streak last week in most dramatic fashion, routing the Oakland Raiders, 34-3, behind the unlikely heroics of Nick Mullens, who had to start thanks to C.J. Beathard’s injury, and who put up one of the best statistical performances in league history for a professional debut. Can Mullens pull off the same magic against the Giants? Take a look at our NFL betting preview.

Why should you bet on the Giants?

Eli Manning was able to find people down the field in the loss to Washington, as he threw for 316 yards and a score, but he also threw two costly picks that allowed the Redskins to escape more damage. The Redskins loaded the box on Barkley, holding him to 38 yards on the day. Odell Beckham Jr. took advantage of the opportunities, catching eight passes for 136 yards. However, the Giants’ defense was not able to keep Washington from scoring after those turnovers, and if the Giants don’t have better ball security this week, the 49ers will make them pay as well. New York has covered the spread in seven of their last nine games coming after a game in which they failed to cover. However, they have only covered once in their last five games coming out of the bye week and in four of their last 14 games against NFC competition. If you like the Giants, then you think that they used the bye week to key on Mullens’ tendencies and will use their pass rush to harass him into mistakes. You also think that Barkley will be able to have more of an impact on offense and will force the 49ers to respect the pass and the run.

Why should you put your money on the 49ers?

And how about Nick Mullens? All he did in his debut was throw for 262 yards and three scores. Raheem Mostert had a solid game on the ground as well, rumbling for 86 yards. Mullens’ favorite target was George Kittle, who caught four passes for 108 yards and a score. To be fair, the Oakland defense did not seem interested in covering anyone or rushing the passer last week, which helped Mullens out considerably. However, it’s hard to overlook the quality of his performance given the issues that the Giants also have had against solid passers this season. The 49ers have been a solid pick on Monday Night Football, covering 26 times in their last 32 appearances. However, they have only covered once in their last six games against NFC competition, as their more recent body of work has featured a struggle. If you like the 49ers, you think that the dumpster fire known as the Giants offense will continue to smolder, and that San Francisco will be able to take advantage at home.

Expert Pick and Final Score Prediction

Will Nick Mullens have another historic game from a statistical perspective? It’s doubtful, now that the Giants have film on him. However, the Niners’ defense was stout last week and should be again with the encouragement of that big win, and so I see San Francisco winning, 24-16.
