Jacksonville Jaguars 2019 NFL Season Win/Loss Total Betting Prediction

The 2017 season for the Jacksonville Jaguars ended with a trip to the AFC Championship — a game in which the Jaguars led New England on the road, going into the fourth quarter. You can probably remember how that turned out, with the fabled Jacksonville defense panicking and Blake Bortles unable to move the ball against a Patriots defense that had proven porous. In 2018, the “real” Bortles returned, and despite an ironclad defense, Jacksonville went just 5-11. Now the Jaguars have acquired Nick Foles, the Super Bowl MVP from two years ago, to lead the offense, and NFL betting win totals for the Jaguars range between 7 ½ and 8 wins for the 2019 campaign. Let’s take a look at the Jacksonville Jaguars’ prospects for beating that total in a tough AFC South.

The opener is a juicy contest, as Kansas City last took the field in the AFC Championship, when they fell to the New England Patriots. The Jaguars and Chiefs met last year in Kansas City, with the Chiefs rolling to a 30-14 victory, a game that would start a seven-game skid for the Jaguars. With better ball security, Jacksonville should keep this game closer at home, but I don’t see them winning. Next up will come the defending AFC South champions — the Houston Texans. Can Nick Foles deliver on the road against Deshaun Watson and a revamped Houston defense? I don’t think so. I see them breaking into the win column in Week 3 at home against Tennessee, who has beaten Jacksonville four times in a row and six of seven. The change to Foles will make the difference. A trip to Denver will bring the Jaguars back to .500, as the defense will shut down Joe Flacco. Then Jacksonville visits Carolina, another team looking for some redemption. This will come down to Cam Newton’s health and state of mind. Jacksonville and Carolina have met six times, with both teams winning three times — but with Carolina winning three of the last four. I see Newton finding enough openings to deliver the home win. At 2-3, the Jaguars will host New Orleans next. I see the Saints rolling through 2019 with a scorched-earth policy, and I’m not sure Foles can match Drew Brees drive for drive. Then, the Jaguars will get back in the win column with a trip to Cincinnati, who will still have Andy Dalton struggling at quarterback despite a change at head coach. Then come the Jets, who should be much better in 2019 — but won’t be good enough to solve the Jacksonville defense. At 4-4, Jacksonville will head to London to “host” the Houston Texans, and I see the Texans completing the sweep across the pond. That sends the Jags into the bye at 4-5. A trip to Indianapolis will end in a loss, as will a trip to Tennessee, leaving Jacksonville at 4-7. Then the defense will shut down Tampa Bay in a win, but then the Chargers will make the Jaguars 5-8. A trip to Oakland seems winnable, but it’s a long trip — and the Jaguars haven’t won in Oakland in 15 years. Then, the Jaguars visit a tough Atlanta team before hosting Indianapolis in the finale. That trip to eight wins seems hard — so I’m taking the “under.”
