Rams vs 49ers NFL Week 7 Odds & Pick

Written by on October 19, 2018

The Los Angeles Rams are the last undefeated team remaining in the National Football League, and they will look to push to 7-0 on Sunday afternoon when they renew one of the great rivalries in pro football as they meet the 49ers. San Francisco has struggled to a 1-5 record, not least because of the loss of quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo for the season with a torn ACL. C.J. Beathard has the 49er offense looking serviceable, but there’s a reason why he’s a backup quarterback. The Rams come in as the heavy favorites thanks to their trio of Jared Goff, Cooper Kupp and Todd Gurley II on offense — and their smashmouth defense. Should you take San Francisco and all of those points? Or will the Rams deliver a rout? Check out our NFL betting prediction for this NFC West showdown for Rams vs 49ers.

Why should you bet on the Rams?

Jared Goff seems to look better and better at the helm of the Rams’ offense with each passing week. He has 1,928 passing yards through six games, completing 69 percent of his attempts. He has at least two touchdown passes in 10 of his last 14 games, and he has a 12:5 TD:INT ratio so far this season. His favorite targets have been Kupp, Robert Woods and Brandin Cooks, and Gurley has been giving the team offensive balance, averaging 104 yards per game with nine touchdowns. The defense that the Rams bring is substantial as well. Led by coordinator Wade Phillips, the Rams’ D leans heavily on Cory Littleton, who leads the squad with 48 tackles. Offseason signing Aaron Donald leads the Rams with four sacks. With all of this talent up front, you might think that the Rams would be an easy cover. However, they have only covered the spread twice in their last eight games after a straight up win and once in their last five games against the NFC. If you like the Rams here, you think that they will simply overwhelm Beathard and the rest of the San Francisco offense.

Why should you put your money on the 49ers?

San Francisco has won four of their last six games at Levi’s Stadium. Beathard has struggled at times after taking over the offense from Garoppolo, but he has thrown six touchdown passes so far — all in his last 114 passing attempts. Pierre Garcon leads the team with 20 receptions, and the ground game is doing its part, averaging 142 yards per game, led by Matt Breida, who has 430 yards so far this year with a pair of touchdowns. On defense, San Francisco can get quite generous. They are permitting 29.8 points per game, despite the fact that Fred Warner leads the team with 50 tackles and DeForest Buckner has a team-high 4 ½ sacks. The 49ers are simply having a hard time getting opponents off the field, which leads to higher tackling numbers but also longer drives for the other team. San Francisco has covered the spread in four of their last five home games against the Rams.

Expert Pick and Final Score Prediction

This game marks the Rams’ third straight game away from the Los Angeles Coliseum, and each of their three wins has been by a combined twelve points. The largest loss that San Francisco has suffered this year has been by 11 points. As competitively as the 49ers have been playing, even without Garoppolo, I don’t see the Rams covering this point spread. I predict a final score of Los Angeles 27, San Francisco 20, as the Rams move to 7-0 on the season.
