Vikings vs Seahawks NFL Week 14 Lines & Betting Preview

Written by on December 6, 2018

The Seattle Seahawks and the Minnesota Vikings played in the third-coldest playoff game in NFL history, which sounds odd if you think that the Vikings play indoors and the Seahawks don’t play in a cold-weather city. However, the 2015-16 season saw the Vikings playing at the University of Minnesota while U.S. Bank Stadium was under construction, and so when the Vikings welcomed the Seahawks, the game started at -6 degrees Fahrenheit, with a -20 wind chill. Minnesota looked headed to a win until kicker Blair Walsh hooked a chip-shot field goal to give the Seattle Seahawks new life. Now Seattle is rebuilding ahead of schedule, while Minnesota has regressed significantly from their NFC Championship status a year ago. Who will win on Monday Night Football? Check out our NFL betting preview.

Why should you bet on the Vikings?

The Minnesota Vikings took another disappointing loss last week, as they went to New England and fell, 24-10. Kirk Cousins has put up decent numbers for the Vikings, throwing for 3,490 yards and 23 scores (against nine interceptions) on the season. Tailback Dalvin Cook has returned from injury, but Latavius Murray still leads the team with 466 yards on the ground. Wide receiver Adam Thielen already is well past 1,000 yards, with nine touchdown receptions. Stefon Diggs has battled injuries but has chipped in 839 yards and six scores of his own. So why are the Vikings struggling? They have had major kicking woes, ditching one kicker after an awful opener and now getting inconsistent results from Dan Bailey. The Vikings have only covered once in their last eight games against teams with winning records and just once in their last five games at Seattle. The offense is wobbly, and the defense gives up big plays down the field at just the wrong time. That’s not a good recipe against a team like Seattle, especially on the road. If you like the Vikings, you see everything that has been going wrong turning around.

Why should you put your money on the Seahawks?

Seattle has won three in a row, most recently dismantling the San Francisco 49ers by the score of 43-16 last week. To be fair, the 49ers are now starting their third quarterback of the season in Nick Mullens, but Mullens still threw for 414 yards in the loss. Russell Wilson has quietly put together a terrific season, throwing for 29 touchdowns and five interceptions. Chris Carson has emerged as a nice surprise at tailback, running for 704 yards, while Tyler Lockett leads the team with 44 receptions. Frank Clark is spearheading a ferocious pass rush with 10 sacks, while Jarran Reed has added 6 ½. That doesn’t bode well for the less-than-mobile Cousins. Seattle has covered in three of their last four and in five of their last six against NFC competition. These are the two top contenders in the wild card race right now, so I expect a tight game. But with that CenturyLink 12th Man about to roar for four quarters straight, it’s hard to pick against Seattle. They are traditionally a solid home team under Pete Carroll, one of the better motivators in the NFL, and they are on a roll right now.

Expert Pick and Final Score Prediction

I hoped that the Vikings would hop right back up after that rout they took in the NFC Championship, but it’s been a slog of a season. Take the Seahawks.
