The hype is still building for Sunday’s Super Bowl LII betting matchup between the New England Patriots and the Philadelphia Eagles. However, sports betting will go on after the confetti has dropped and the Lombardi Trophy is in the award case of the winning team. Here are some suggestions for ways to find your next wagers after Sunday night.

What to Bet After Super Bowl LII

The NBA All-Star Game

Set for February 18, 2018, this game is the crowning jewel of a festive weekend celebrating the best players in the NBA. This game used to pit the All-Stars from the Eastern Conference against the All-Stars from the Western Conference, but now it features teams picked by captains. This year, fan voting made Stephen Curry and LeBron James the captains, and the starters from fan voting were Kyrie Irving, DeMar DeRozan, LeBron James, Joel Embiid, Giannis Antetokounmpo, Stephen Curry, James Harden, Kevin Durant, Anthony Davis and DeMarcus Cousins. Cousins is out due to an Achilles tendon rupture, though, so Paul George has taken his spot. This game rarely features much in the way of defense, so look for the “over” on this game and pick the team that you think will have the best shot. Here are the rosters, with injury replacements in parentheses.

MLB Futures Wagers

Pitchers and catchers will be reporting to spring training very soon, which means that we’re on the verge of the 2018 Major League Baseball season. Last season ended with thrilling suspense, as the Houston Astros and the Los Angeles Dodgers went seven games in an exciting World Series, with the Astros winning the clincher. There are all sorts of futures wagers you can place for the coming season — division winners, MVP winners, Cy Young winners and World Series winners. The Dodgers opened the futures betting as 5-1 favorites to hoist the Commissioner’s Trophy next November, so here’s a quick look at the rest of the odds.
  • 6-1: Cleveland, Houston
  • 7-1: Washington
  • 8-1: N.Y. Yankees
  • 10-1: Boston, Chicago Cubs
  • 20-1: N.Y. Mets, Arizona, St. Louis
  • 30-1: Tampa Bay, Toronto, Seattle, Milwaukee

The Academy Awards (March 4, 2018)

The 90th edition of the Academy Awards is set for Sunday, March 4. There are 24 different categories of awards that you can bet on. Here are some of the latest odds on some of the top categories.

Best Picture

  • The Shape of Water (10-11)
  • Three Billboards outside Ebbing, Missouri (13-10)
  • Lady Bird (9-1)
  • Dunkirk (25-1)
  • Get Out (25-1)
  • The Post (33-1)
  • Call Me By Your Name (50-1)
  • Darkest Hour (66-1)
  • Phantom Thread (100-1)
My favorite? Get Out. If you haven’t seen this bizarre movie that takes a new twist at every turn, you definitely need to.

Best Director

  • Guillermo del Toro (“The Shape of Water”) (1-3)
  • Christopher Nolan (“Dunkirk”) (5-2)
  • Greta Gerwig (“Lady Bird”) (7-1)
  • Jordan Peele (“Get Out”) (33-1)
  • Paul Thomas Anderson (“Phantom Thread”) (60-1)
My favorite? Dunkirk recreated the feel of World War II and the intense danger of this evacuation so that I felt the same claustrophobia as the characters. But I still need to see “The Shape of Water.” The Best Actor category has Gary Oldman (“Darkest Hour”) at a 1-14 favorite, and the Best Actress category has Frances McDormand “(Three Billboards outside Ebbing, Missouri” at a 1-6 favorite. Given how those movies did at the Golden Globes and the critical reception, it’s hard to argue against them — but it’s also hard to make any money. So focus on the two biggest categories, unless you want to go into the lower categories.
