Top NHL Betting Picks of the Week – March 19th Edition

Written by on March 19, 2019

With another NHL Betting week in the 2018-19 regular season, the Tampa Bay Lightning continue to dominate the Eastern Conference, winners of four in a row and eight of ten. Their 114 points are the best in the league and would guarantee them home ice all the way through the playoffs. In the Metropolitan Division, the Washington Capitals and the New York Islanders are tied, with 91 points and 42 wins apiece, although the Capitals are still the hotter team, winners of eight of ten. In the Western Conference, the Calgary Flames and the San Jose Sharks lead the standings, with the Flames sitting at 95 points and the Sharks one point behind in the Pacific Division. Winnipeg leads the Central Division with 88 points, one ahead of Nashville. Thinking about doing some hockey wagering this week? We have three pro-hockey betting suggestions for you.

Top NHL Betting Picks of the Week – March 19th Edition

Tuesday, March 19

Washington at New Jersey (7:30 pm ET, NBC Sports)

The Washington Capitals have split their last four games, alternating wins over Winnipeg and Philadelphia with losses to Pittsburgh and Tampa Bay. That loss to Tampa Bay came on Saturday, as the Lightning rolled to a 6-3 win. Alex Ovechkin did score two goals for the Capitals in the loss, making 48 tallies for the season. John Carlson scored the third goal, and Braden Holtby stopped 29 shots. However, the Capitals had no answer on defense or with puck management to make the game competitive. New Jersey has also split their last four games, losing 9-4 in Calgary before winning in Edmonton and Vancouver. On Sunday, though, they got shut out in Colorado, 3-0. New Jersey has much less to play for after falling out of playoff contention on Friday, and the Devils only put five shots on goal in the first period. Will they have much to play for on Tuesday night against Washington? I see the Capitals rolling in this one. Final NHL Betting Prediction: Washington 3, New Jersey 1

Florida at Dallas (8:30 pm ET)

Florida had a nice four-game winning streak going before losing in Anaheim on Sunday by the score of 3-2. Evgenil Dadonov and Aaron Ekblad scored the Panther goals, but rookie goaltender Sam Montembeault stopped just 19 shots, and Anaheim was able to get the game-winner late in the third period. Florida is still eight points behind the Blue Jackets for the second wild-card position in the East. The Panthers come to Dallas looking to avenge a 3-0 home loss earlier this season. Dallas has, predictably, followed up a four-game winning streak by dropping two in a row and three of five, losing at home to Vegas on Friday and then again to Vancouver on Sunday, losing 3-2 in shootout fashion. In that setback, Vancouver roared out to a 2-0 lead before Dallas came back to tie and send the game to overtime, but Dallas could not convert the win in overtime or the shootout. Final NHL Betting Prediction: Dallas 3, Florida 2

Toronto at Buffalo (7:00 pm ET)

The Maple Leafs are now in third in the Atlantic Division, losers of three out of four. They lost to Toronto and Chicago at home last week before beating Philadelphia in a 7-6 barnburner on Friday. Then the Leafs headed to Ottawa on Saturday and lost 6-2. In that setback, Morgan Rielly and John Tavares were the only Maple Leafs to score, and while goalie Garret Sparks stopped 38 shots, the defensive effort in front of him was poor. Now the Leafs head to Buffalo looking for a jolt. The Sabres ended a seven-game winning streak with a 4-3 shootout win over the St. Louis Blues on Sunday. Sam Reinhart delivered the winning goal in the shootout just after sending a backhanded shot off the post in the last second of overtime. Buffalo had not won since March 1 but picked up a nice result on the second day of a back-to-back. But can the Sabres hold off the young Maple Leafs? Final NHL Betting Prediction: Toronto 4, Buffalo 2
