Top NHL Betting Picks of the Week – November 19th Edition

Written by on November 19, 2018

The Buffalo Sabres have the longest winning streak in the National Hockey League right now, having strung together five straight victories. The Vancouver Canucks are on the longest skid right now, losers of five straight. The Tampa Bay Lightning and the Nashville Predators lead the Eastern and Western Conferences respectively, each with 29 points after 20 games. Let’s take a look at three primo NHL betting picks for you to consider as you plan your sports wagering for the week ahead.

Top NHL Betting Picks of the Week – November 19th Edition

Monday, November 19

Dallas at N.Y. Rangers (7:00pm ET)

The Stars shrugged off disappointing losses to Nashville (in which they led 4-2 going into the third but coughed up the lead and lost in overtime) and Columbus, dealing Boston a 1-0 overtime loss on Friday and then heading to New York to rout the Islanders, 6-2, on Sunday night. Now they head across town to take on the Blueshirts on the second night of a back-to-back. Esa Lindell and Alexander Radulov each had a pair of goals. In a game where Dallas trailed 1-0 after the first period, that was an impressive comeback. The Rangers have shot up the standings after a dreadful start and have 22 points, second in the Metropolitan Division. They come in having won three of four, including wins over Columbus, Vancouver and Florida, wrapped around a 7-5 loss to the Islanders on Thursday. They have won five in a row at home, with goalie Henrik Lundqvist passing Jacques Plante to move into seventh on the list of all time wins for a goaltender with 438. Given the inconsistency that Dallas has shown this season, and given that this is a back-to-back game for the visiting Stars, I see New York moving to six straight home wins. NHL Betting Prediction: New York 3, Dallas 2

Chicago at Washington (7:00pm ET, ESPN+)

The Chicago Blackhawks have won two of three after snapping out of an eight-game losing streak. They beat the Minnesota Wild on Sunday night, 3-1, thanks to first-period goals from Brandon Saad and Jonathan Toews and 39 saves from Corey Crawford. That makes Chicago 2-2-2 since replacing coach Joel Quenneville with Jeremy Colliton. The game sat at 2-1 after Zach Parise scored in the second period. The Blackhawks’ defense played solidly, keeping vision lanes open for Crawford and cleaning up rebounds. Washington has split their last four games, losing to a dreadful Arizona team and a solid Winnipeg team, and they won in overtime against Colorado on Friday night. They play Montreal on Monday before welcoming the Blackhawks on Wednesday. In the Friday win, Nicklas Backstrom scored the overtime winner on a 4-on-3 power play 22 seconds into extra time. Alex Ovechkin and Devante Smith-Pelly scored the other two goals for the Caps, who got 24 saves from Phoenix Copley. Goalie Braden Holtby (upper-body injury), Evgeny Kuznetsov and T.J. Oshie all missed the game and all remain day-to-day, so pay attention to injury reports before you finalize your wager here. NHL Betting Prediction: Washington 3, Chicago 1

St. Louis at Nashville (8:00pm ET)

The Blues enter this game in dead last in the Central Division, with just 17 points on the season. They have lost two of three, including a 4-0 setback on San Jose on Saturday night. The Sharks scored three goals in a five-minute span of the second period. St. Louis did come in on the second night of a back-to-back after winning, 4-1, over Vegas on Friday night, but once again the Blues struggled to put up consistency. Now the Blues visit the division and conference leaders when they head to Nashville. The Predators suffered a three-game losing streak, losing in Anaheim, San Jose and Arizona, but they turned things around on Saturday with a 5-3 win over the lowly Los Angeles Kings. They play the East-leading Tampa Bay Lightning on Monday before welcoming the Blues on Wednesday. In that win over the Kings, Calle Jarnkrok scored a hat trick, including the winning goal while the team was shorthanded. I see the Predators using that win to propel them into the week ahead and take advantage of a Blues team still putting together their identity. NHL Betting Prediction: Nashville 4, St. Louis 2
