2019 Copa America Quarterfinals Odds & Betting Preview

The 2019 Copa America has moved on from group play to the quarterfinal rounds, with matches in the round of eight set to start on June 27. Brazil won Group A, with Venezuela finishing as the runner-up, and Peru also moves on as one of the third-place teams with the best results, coming out with four points after drawing with Venezuela. Colombia won Group B, sweeping all three matches, with Argentina finishing as the runner-up and Paraguay advancing as a third-place team despite finishing with just two points, as their goal differential (-1) was better than that of Japan (-4) in Group C. Uruguay won Group C, with Chile emerging as the runner-up. We have the 2019 Copa America quarterfinals schedule for you, as well as some soccer betting thoughts on each of the four matches.

Thursday, June 27

Brazil vs Paraguay (8:30pm ET, ESPN)

Brazil won two group play matches and drew the third, routing Peru by a 5-0 score in their final group play match. In that game, they put nine shots on goal and possessed for 69 percent of the game. Willian and Roberto Firmino both scored for Brazil, giving fans a sigh of relief. Brazil has not yet permitted a single goal in this tournament, thanks to the stout defense of Marquinhos and Thiago Silva. Paraguay has permitted four goals and scored just three times, with two draws and a loss in group play, including a 1-0 loss to Colombia in their group play finale. The talent difference between Paraguay and Brazil is immense — and the Brazilians are playing at home. Final Score Prediction: Brazil 2, Paraguay 0

Venezuela vs Argentina (3:00pm ET, ESPN)

Argentina has not played well in the Copa America but was able to push through in their last group match, beating Qatar to advance. Before that match, though, Argentina had only picked up a single point in two matches. Against Qatar, Argentina launched 19 shots and possessed for 54 percent of the game, getting goals from Lautaro Martinez and Sergio Aguero. Even so, Argentina needs to up their game to advance. Venezuela came out of group play with five points, drawing Brazil and beating Bolivia, 3-1, in their group play finale. They opened the scoring in just the second minute and rolled to the win, getting two goals from Darwin Machis and an insurance tally from Josef Martinez in the 86th minute. The Bolivian goal was the only one Venezuela has permitted in this tournament. Venezuela has played well against elite competition, and Argentina has looked out of sorts. I like Venezuela to play Argentina to a draw, sending the match to penalty kicks. Final Score Prediction: Venezuela 1, Argentina 1

Colombia vs Chile (7:00pm ET, ESPN)

Colombia rolls into the quarterfinals with a pristine 3-0 record. In their last game, they used a lot of reserves and got just the scoring they needed to beat Paraguay, 1-0, behind a goal from Gustavo Cuellar in the 34th minute. The offense has not been spectacular, scoring just four goals, but their defense has been ironclad. Chile finished group play with six points, losing to Uruguay in the group play finale, conceding a tally to Edinson Cavani in the 82nd minute. Wins over Japan and Ecuador made Chile look terrific, particularly with contributions from Alexis Sanches and Eduardo Vargas. Chile won the last Copa America. Chile has the experience in knockout games in this tournament, and I see them prevailing — especially with the value available. Final Score Prediction: Chile 2, Colombia 1 Saturday, June 29 Uruguay vs Peru (3:00pm ET, ESPN) Uruguay edged Chile, 1-0, in their group play finale to win that group and finish with seven points. They only possessed for 42 percent of the game but still delivered in the 82nd minute. The only setback that Uruguay has suffered was a draw against Japan, but a pair of clean sheets in group play demonstrates their stout back line. Peru took a 5-0 beating from Brazil in their last group play match, possessing for less than a third of the match. Peru has put just three balls into their opponents’ nets in this tournaments, and they don’t have the strikers to make a dent against Uruguay. Final Score Prediction: Uruguay 2, Peru 0
