Tuesday, July 2

England vs United States (3:00pm ET, FOX / FOX Sports GO)

This is England’s second consecutive appearance in a Women’s World Cup semifinal, and an upset over the United States would give them their first trip to the final in the history of the program. Against Norway, England delivered an offensive flurry, launching 17 shots and putting seven on target, rolling to a commanding lead by the intermission. In six of their last eight matches, the Three Lionesses have scored at least two goals, led by Ellen White, who has found the back of the net in three consecutive matches and in four of the team’s five World Cup matches. Eight different players have scored 10 or more international goals. The United States entered their quarterfinal match against France facing a ton of pressure with a talented opponent, but they scored in the opening minutes and clamped down on the French side with an impressive defense. France did possess for 60 percent of the match, but the United States took advantage of mistakes to score those two goals, both by Megan Rapinoe, and as the match wore on, the United States brought back a fifth defender to limit French chances at the net. The conservative approach paid off, and now the United States is on the brink of yet another World Cup final. Final Score Prediction: United States 2, England 1

Wednesday, July 3

Netherlands vs Sweden (3:00pm ET, FS1 / FOX Sports GO)

While the Netherlands and Italy played a scoreless first half, the Dutch possessed for 69 percent of the match and sent 21 shots, putting nine on target, so when Vivianne Miedema and Stefanie van der Gragt scored in the second half, it was not really a surprise. Netherlands has scored at least two goals in seven of their last eight matches, with six different players scoring, showing significant depth. That will make it difficult for the Swedish defense to lock down the Dutch attack because goals can come from so many different directions. Netherlands has played more consistent soccer in this tournament and has played better than Sweden in other major international tournaments recently. Sweden advances to the Women’s World Cup semifinals for the third time in the last five cups and would make their first final in 16 years with a victory. Sweden looked in trouble in their quarterfinal match against Germany, trailing by a goal in the early going and looking slow. However, Sofia Jakobsson and Stina Blackstenius scored for Sweden to take the lead, as Sweden won despite possessing for just 41 percent of the match. The Swedes have not possessed for the majority of any of their last three matches but have won two of them nonetheless. Blackstenius has goals in two of Sweden’s last three matches. Can Sweden advance after pulling off the big upset? Or will the Dutch make their first Women’s World Cup final? Final Score Prediction: Netherlands 2, Sweden 1
