Manchester City vs Everton 2019 EPL Odds & Game Preview

Written by on September 27, 2019

As we head into the seventh week of play in the English Premier League, Manchester City is already five points back of Liverpool, atop the table with a perfect 18 points in six matches. City has 13 after an uncharacteristic home draw against Tottenham — and an absolutely shocking 3-2 loss at Norwich City two weeks ago. The Citizens responded with wins over Shakhtar Donetsk (a 3-0 road rout) in Champions League group play, an 8-0 undressing of visiting Watford in EPL play last weekend, and then a 3-0 beating of lower-tiered Preston in League Cup play this week. Posting three straight clean sheets has to help the confidence of City as they head to Everton this Saturday. The Toffees have lost three of their last four EPL matches after starting out with a win and a draw, and they are already teetering close to the relegation line with just seven points out of their first six matches. A home loss to Sheffield United last week may well have been the low point in the season thus far. As City is set to arrive, can Everton deliver what would be a resounding upset? Or will City take another step back toward the top of the table? We have your soccer betting preview right here.

Why should you bet on Manchester City?

The Citizens’ 8-0 demolition of Watford last week may have shown that the defending English Premier League champion is back. David Silva scored for City in the very first minute, and then Sergio Aguero converted a penalty six minutes later. Then came goals from Riyad Mahrez in the 12th minute and the first of three from Bernardo Silva three minutes later, and the rout was on. City went into the locker room at halftime up 5-0 and kept the offense up after the intermission. They possessed for 69 percent of the game and outshot Watford 28-5 (11-4 on target). When Manchester City and Everton last met, they also played at Goodison Park, and City came away with a 2-0 road win, with a dominant performance from Gabriel Jesus. If you like City, you see the last three matches across all competitions as a sign that their scheme is finally up and running — and their key talent has gotten the message that it is time to start playing.

Why should you put your money on the Toffees?

Everton dominated possession against Sheffield United, holding the ball for 70 percent of the game and making more than twice as many passes — completing 20 percent more of them. They outshot the visitors, 16-2 (3-1 on target). However, the Everton defense was beyond sloppy, producing an own goal for Sheffield in the 40th minute and then having disaster on their back line again in the second half, making it easy for Lys Mousset to add the insurance tally in the 79th minute. That sort of defense has betrayed Everton multiple times thus far, and it is a problem that Manchester City will ruthlessly exploit if it repeats itself. Everton spent a ton of money during the transfer window, but their roster is still trying to find ways to play well together. Everton will not sit this close to the bottom of the table all season long, but finding their way against a Manchester City team that, all of a sudden, seems to be firing on all cylinders, may be too much for the Toffees to pull off.

Final Score Prediction

There have been times when Everton has tested Manchester City, but City just seems way ahead of the Toffees right now in terms of putting their game together. Everton could come out and deliver a big surprise, but I don’t see that happening this week. I predict a final score of Manchester City 2, Everton 0.
