Richel Hogenkamp has won just once in five matches on the main tour this year, dropping 10 of 15 matches overall. She has advanced to the second round in three of her five appearances at Grand Slam events, including a straight-sets win over Jelena Jankovic at Roland-Garros a year ago. However, she has lost three of her last four matches on clay, and she lost to Sharapova the only time she faced her, at Wimbledon in 2015, when Sharapova won in straight sets. (3) Marin Cilic vs James Duckworth (5:00am ET) Marin Cilic comes in with a 16-8 record in matches this year, and he advanced to the semis at the Rome Masters, using his first serve to roll through opponents. He has a reputation for making deep runs at Grand Slams — so long as he can limit his unforced errors. He made it to the quarterfinals at Roland-Garros a year ago, so he should have confidence again this year. He has won five of his last eight matches on clay. James Duckworth has fought through a number of injuries and has come through foot surgery to appear at Roland-Garros — his first match on clay since his appearance here in 2015. He has only played three matches since the 2017 Australian Open and just one match on the main tour during that time. The problem that Dimitrov showed in the match was an unsightly 28 unforced errors, keeping Salvat closer in the second set than he needed to. Dimitrov is 4-4 in his last eight matches on clay. He’ll face Jared Donaldson, who needed five sets to dispatch Nicolas Jarry. Donaldson committed 23 unforced errors — but over five sets, instead of three. He won 76 percent of his first serve points and 59 percent of his second serve points. Donaldson has advanced to the third round of a Grand Slam in two previous tournaments, but he is still just 2-5 in his last seven matches on clay courts.
