UFC Fight Night 156 Odds, Shevchenko vs Carmouche 2 Betting & Preview

Written by on August 7, 2019

UFC heads down to South America to present UFC Fight Night 156: Shevchenko vs Carmouche 2 on Saturday, August 10, from Antel Arena in Montevideo, Uruguay. This is the first time UFC has held an event in Uruguay, and the main event is a UFC Women’s Flyweight Championship tilt between the current champion, Valentina Shevchenko, and former challenger Liz Carmouche, making a stab at swiping the belt. The two met in 2010 outside UFC, when Carmouche won in the second round via TKO, which is Shevchenko’s only stoppage loss in the 16-year MMA career that Shevchenko has put together. The co-main event is a welterweight clash between Vicente Luque and Mike Perry. You can catch the whole night on ESPN+, and we have the entire card as well as UFC betting thoughts on some of the fights.

Valentina Shevchenko vs Liz Carmouche

features a rejuvenated champion in Shevchenko, who has dominated since returning to the flyweight class. This will be her second title defense. She lost to Amanda Nunes in 2017 but has won all three fights since coming back down to flyweight, making Priscila Cachoeira submit, beating Joanna Jedrzejczyk on the cards and delivering a knockout of Jessica Eye. Both of those stoppages came in the second round. Carmouche has won two in a row after a controversial split decision loss to Alexis Davis. Her wins since then have come over Jennifer Maia and Lucie Pudilova, both on the cards. Shevchenko has fought in three title bouts, all for UFC. She challenged Nunes for the Women’s Bantamweight Championship at UFC 215 but lost in a split decision. Her win over Jedrzejczyk gave her the vacant flyweight belt, and her win over Eye at UFC 238 was her first defense. Carmouche took on Ronda Rousey in a Women’s Bantamweight Championship, and she had also fought Marloes Coenen for a belt with Strikeforce. She has lost both of those title bouts. Carmouche has a 5-5 record in UFC, while Shevchenko has a 6-2 record in the promotion. Shevchenko has a stoppage rate of 70 percent, while Carmouche finishes opponents 61 percent of the time. While Carmouche won the first time these two met, I see Shevchenko turning the tables this time. Final Prediction: Shevchenko wins via decision

Vicente Luque vs Mike Perry

pits a pair of 27-year-old welterweights against one another. If Luque can win, he would make a stronger case for inclusion in the top ten among UFC welterweights, while a Perry victory would bring him out of the unranked class of fighters. Luque has a lot more experience in the Octagon, with his pro debut coming at Fight Club 300 back in June 27, 2009, when he delivered a first-round TKO of Andre Playboy. He has fought at several different promotions in Brazil but came to UFC through the Ultimate Fighter. His record of 16-6-1 has shown considerable growth. Perry’s pro debut came five years later, on September 6, 2014, when he knocked out Hector Tirado at Top Alliance Combat. He has also fought in multiple promotions, and the UFC brought him in, matching him up with Hyun Gyu Lim in his debut, which Perry won in a knockout. His professional record is 13-4. Luque has won five straight fights since losing to Leon Edwards at UFC Fight Night 107. He has beaten Niko Price, Chad Laprise, Jalin Turner, Bryan Barerena and Derrick Krantz. Perry won his last fight, beating Alex Oliveira on the cards at UFC Fight Night 150. Of Perry’s 13 victories, 11 have come via knockout or TKO. Luque has delivered a KO or TKO in nine of his 16 wins, including a knockout of Thiago Santos. Final Prediction: Luque wins via decision
