WNBA Betting Picks of the Week – July 16th Edition

While Major League Baseball takes a pause for this year’s All-Star break and pro and college football are still ramping up for their preseasons, the WNBA is still running strong in the middle of the summer. The Washington Mystics lead the Eastern Conference with a 13-9 record, but they are just a half-game ahead of the Atlanta Dream and a game ahead of the Connecticut Sun. In the Western Conference, the Seattle Storm are the class of the league right now with a 16-6 record, 1 ½ games ahead of the Phoenix Mercury. Take a look at three matchups that we’ve picked for your WNBA betting for the week ahead.

WNBA Betting Picks of the Week – July 16th Edition

Tuesday, July 17

New York Liberty at Dallas Wings (1:00pm ET)

Dallas has surged over the .500 mark lately but took a 91-4 loss in Seattle on Saturday against the Storm. Center Liz Cambage had a huge game for the Wings, putting up 23 points, and Skylar Diggins-Smith had 21 points and seven assists, but Cambage was only able to pull down four rebounds. Kayla Thornton also had 18 points for Dallas in the loss, but Seattle won the battle of the rebounds and was able to pull away late. The Wings have won six of eight, though, and they score in buckets, averaging 87.1 points per game. The New York Liberty come to town on a bit of a hot streak themselves, as they have won two in a row, including a 107-84 rout of the Chicago Sky on Sunday. Tina Charles led the Liberty with 21 points and pulled down six boards. Sugar Rodgers had 14 points, as did Brittany Boyd. Bria Hartley had 13 points and Shavonte Zellous had 11. The key was a 26-8 difference in the third quarter as the Sky simply could not buy a bucket. The Liberty are 0-8 against Western Conference teams this year, and Dallas has played well enough to shut down the Liberty’s offense. WNBA Betting Prediction: Dallas 91, New York 84

Atlanta Dream at Connecticut Sun (7:00pm ET)

The Atlanta Dream arrive in the Northeast having won five of their last six games, including an 80-77 home win over the Mystics on Sunday. Elena Delle Donne led all scorers with 23 points, and LaToya Sanders chipped in 16 points and 8 boards. Kristi Toliver and Monique Currie scored a dozen points apiece. As a team, the Dream shoot 41 percent from the floor on the year and average 78.4 points per game. They have permitted 79.4 points per game, but that negative differential has been coming down during their hot streak. Most of those wins have come at home, as the team is just 2-4 in their last six road games, so keeping things hot on the road is a priority. The Sun are looking to win three games in a row for the first time since early June. They score 86.1 points per game and poured it on the Lynx yesterday, rolling to an 83-64 win. Six members of the Sun scored in double figures, led by Morgan Tuck with 15. Jonquel Jones had 12, Rachel Banham and Jasmine Thomas had 11 each, and Shekinna Stricklen and Courtney Williams each had 10. This is a big game between two Eastern Conference contenders, but can the Dream take that strong game on the road? WNBA Betting Prediction: Connecticut 82, Atlanta 79

Wednesday, July 18

Seattle Storm at Chicago Sky (12:00pm ET)

Seattle is coming off a 91-84 win over Dallas in which Breanna Stewart simply did whatever she wanted, rolling for 35 points and 10 rebounds. Natasha Howard also had 17 points and five rebounds, and Jewell Lloyd had 13 points and six boards. They showed why they are the best team in the league with scoring and rebounding, and now they take on a  Sky team that lost by 16 to the Mystics on Friday and lost to the Liberty by 23 on Sunday. In Sunday’s loss, the Sky were led by 15 points from Courtney Vandersloot but had no one with more than three rebounds, as the Liberty dominated the interior. If the Sky can’t do better in the middle, this game could get ugly. WNBA Betting Prediction: Seattle 101, Chicago 84
