Nets vs 76ers 2019 NBA Playoffs Betting Odds & Game 5 Preview

Written by on April 23, 2019

The Philadelphia 76ers have pushed the Brooklyn Nets to the brink of elimination after winning Game 4 in New York City, 112-108, on Saturday. Joel Embiid returned after missing Game 3 with tendinitis in his knee and took control of the game, putting up 31 points and 16 rebounds. His pass to Mike Scott for a three-ball with 18 seconds left gave Philadelphia the game-winner. As usual, Embiid was also involves with some drama, as he committed a flagrant foul 1 that led to a scuffle that saw Jared Dudley and Jimmy Butler get ejections. Tobias Harris also contributed significantly with 24 points, eight rebounds and six assists. For the Nets, Caris LeVert led the way with 25 points, and D’Angelo Russell added 21. Spencer Dinwiddie chipped in 18, but Joe Harris went 0 for 6 from downtown as the league’s best three-point shooter didn’t make a single long ball in either game in Brooklyn. Can the Sixers move on to the Eastern Conference semifinals? Or will Brooklyn force a Game 6? We have your NBA Playoffs sports betting preview right here.

Why should you bet on Brooklyn?

The problem for Brooklyn isn’t on the offensive end, as the Nets are averaging 114.3 points per game in the series. D’Angelo Russell is showing a great deal of the promise that he showed as a rookie in Los Angeles, putting up 22.8 points per contest, and LeVert (21.8 points) and Dinwiddie are also putting up double figures in points. Jarrett Allen leads the team with 6.3 rebounds per game, and LeVert is pulling down five a night.

As far as the numbers goes, Brooklyn has split their last 10 road games, and split the first two road games in this series. However, they have covered seven times in their last nine games away from Barclays Center. They have only covered once in their last six Eastern Conference quarterfinal games, but one of those came in Game 1 of this series. If you like the Nets here, you think that their gritty play from Russell, Dinwiddie and the likes of Jared Dudley will keep them within striking distance of the 76ers, at least close enough to cover that spread.

Team Statistics

Offense:
  • Points/G: 112.2
  • Field Goal %: 44.9
  • 3-Point %: 35.3
  • Free Throw %: 74.5

  • 3-Point %: 34.1
  • Free Throw %: 77.0
  • Rebounds/G: 46.2

Why should you put your money on Philadelphia?

Philadelphia’s offense has been all but unstoppable in their three wins in this series, as they are putting up 122.5 points per game in the series. Embiid leads the team with 25.3 points and 13.7 boards per game, and Harris has 19 points and nine boards per night. Ben Simmons is also scoring in double figures, and Jimmy Butler is pulling down 4.8 rebounds a game. The three-point shooting could be a little better (30.7 percent), but the team is making the shots when they need to against a plucky Nets team.

Philadelphia has covered in six of their last seven Eastern Conference quarterfinal games, and in four of their last five against Eastern Conference opposition — and in four of their last five against Brooklyn. If you like Philadelphia here, you see them fighting through drama once again and overwhelming Brooklyn with their offensive talent. The point spread (7 ½) is a little large for a playoff game, but the average margin in the four games is Philadelphia +8.2, even with the loss figured in.

Expert Pick and Final Score Prediction

Philadelphia has the best lineup on paper in the Eastern Conference, and they have shown that since their Game 1 loss. I see them putting together another dominant show against Brooklyn, but I don’t see the Nets fading. I see Philadelphia holding on for a win, eliminating the Nets, but I see the Nets covering in a 122-117 Sixers win.
