Road America has 14 turns; the start-finish line sends drivers down a hill into a flat right-hand corner that requires heavy braking. Turns 2 and 3 include more of a push to the right and then a tougher right-hand turn that takes more downshifting than braking. Turn 4 is more like Turn 2, just a push to the right into a long straightaway. After that opportunity to build speed, Turn 5 is the first left-hand turn in the course, requiring a downshift to first gear in most cases. Turn 6 is also a left-hand turn that comes after a short uphill. Turn 7 comes shortly after; most drivers will remain in second gear through both.

Turn 8 is one of the sharpest and comes after drivers have pushed into third gear before downshifting back to second. Turns 9 and 10 are known as the Carousel, as it is a long, sweeping journey around a pair of corners. Most drivers feather the throttle here and keep things in second gear to maximize speed while staying on the road. Turn 11 is another push to the right, allowing drivers to stay in third gear in most cases. Then it’s down the hill to Turn 12, known as Canada Corner. This right-hand turn requires a downshift to second and some heavy braking. Then drivers head uphill, staying in second gear going into the Bill Mitchell Bend, also known as Turn 13, turning to the left. The final turn is a right-hander, and drivers will stay in second through it before heading to the frontstretch and zooming uphill to the start-finish line.

Alex Palou

is currently leading the Drivers’ Championship standings and has cracked the top eight in every race in 2023. This includes two victories, three top-three finishes and six top-five finishes.

Marcus Ericsson

came in second at the Indy 500 and won the first race of the season. He has cracked the top three three times and and has been in the top ten each race in 2023.

Scott Dixon

has finished in the top ten six times. His best result was a third-place finish at St. Petersburg.

Josef Newgarden

won the Drivers’ Championship in 2017 and 2019, and he won the Indy 500 this year, one of two 2023 victories. He has five top-ten finishes overall on the season.

Pato O’Ward

has finished second in three different races this year. He has not raced well in either of the last two events but offers some value if you like him to bounce back.
