Odds to Win Driver’s Championship 2023: 8 Races remain

At this writing, almost the whole NASCAR Cup Series field remains technically eligible for the 2023 drivers’ championship. However, only eight regular-season races remain, as the Coke Zero Sugar 400 at Daytona International Speedway will bring that part of the 2023 campaign to a conclusion. At that point, the field of eligible drivers will shrink to the top 16 in the standings, and the next three races (in Darlington, Kansas and Bristol) will determine who advances to the Round of 12. The field will shrink again to eight eligible drivers after three races; the field then shrinks to just four entering the Championship Race, set for November 5 in Phoenix. Let’s look at the NASCAR betting odds for each of the eligible drivers to win the championship as well as some thoughts about the contenders.

Bet on the NASCAR Cup Series Championship!

Martin Truex Jr

currently leads the Cup Series standings, with a pair of wins among six top-five results for the leader.

William Byron

is one of just two drivers with three Cup Series victories so far in 2023. He leads the Cup Series in top-five and top-ten results, and he has led 722 laps so far in 2023. The next-best driver in that metric has led just 588.

Kyle Busch

holds the record for victories in the NASCAR Xfinity Series, and his perofrmance in the Cup Series has improved in 2023 from a bit of a down year in 2022. At any time, he can come out of nowhere and win a race, although sometimes we wonder if his attention is as focused as it was in years past.

Ross Chastain

has made some enemies in the Cup Series with his aggressive driving style and his willingness to trade paint to gain an advantage. However, once he won the Ally 400, he changed from being a reckless driver who kept causing problems in the closing laps to a driver who can use aggressive tactics to get into a winning position.

Kyle Larson

has two wins in 2023, so even though he is 70 points back of Truex in the point standings, once he enters races where winning clinches you a spot in the next round, Larson will be hard to drive out of the playoffs. His eight top-five results lead the Cup Series. He also has finished in the top ten in four straight races.

Christopher Bell

showed that he belongs in the Cup Series when he took first at the Bristol Dirt Race. He is generally better on road courses, and he won the first two stages at the Grant Park 220, but some bad luck down the stretch kept him from winning the race.

Denny Hamlin

won the AdventHealth 400 and seems to be right there at the end each week with a chance at victory.

Joey Logano

is the defending Cup Series champion, but you wouldn’t know that if you only looked at his 2023 results; his top-ten result in Chicago may help him start to turn his season around.

Kevin Harvick

is watching his racing career ebb away, as he has already announced his retirement at the end of this campaign. He has yet to win a race in 2023, but he is in the playoff hunt, and if he can get into the Round of 16, and if he can catch lightning in a bottle and win a race or two, that win could be his.
