Austin Hill

is an interesting dark horse here, but if you consider that he is the top plate racer in the Xfinity Series and has an intermediate superspeedway win at Daytona in the Craftsman Turck Series, so he knows how to get a win here. It will take some disorder and good fortune for him to take a Cup Series victory, but he has access to quality equipment and has become one of the top Xfinity drivers.

Cole Custer

is another dark horse, more because of what he’s driving than because of his own racing. Custer’s connections with Haas should get him a car that’s a little faster than what he normally has, and that additional boost of speed is really all Custer – another driver who has learned to win in the Xfinity Series, where he has three wins in 2023 – needs to find his way at or near the front of this pack.

Ryan Blaney

is near the top of the odds list for a reason. In Atlanta Motor Speedway’s last two races, Blaney has come in seventh and fifth. He finished second in the last two at Talladega (another intermediate superspeedway) and cracked the top ten in the Daytona 500 earlier this year. He has three wins among 15 top-ten finishes in his last 33 plate events.

Erik Jones

is driving the 43 car that Aric Almriola and Bubba Wallace rode to fight for victories at Talladega and Daytona. Jones won the 2018 summer race at Daytona and the 2020 Busch Clash at Daytona, showing that he can work his way to victory out of a pack race. Jones has two straight top-ten finishes at Atlanta; at Talladega, he has finished sixth in three consecutive races and has six top-ten finishes in the last seven races.

Denny Hamlin

has finished in the top ten in 44% of the plate races he has entered in his career. That rate is second-best among all active Cup Series drivers.

Bubba Wallace

has learned to survive pack races, and that’s what superspeedway success is all about. He has an 81% survival rate (top-20 finish percentage) on superspeedways, which is the best number among all Cup Series drivers.
