Superbike WorldSBK Lines and Analysis for Italian Round

The Superbike World Championship, also known as WorldSBK or World Superbike, has been around since 1988; each season takes the riders through a set of rounds. Each round consists of two full-length races as well as a ten-lap sprint event known as the Superpole race. These three race results are taken together to determine World Championships for riders and manufacturers. The Prometeon Italian Round, the seventh of the season, is set for this coming weekend. The circuit is in Imola and contains 22 turns (nine right and 13 left), with a course length of 4.936 kilometers. The straightaway that includes the start and finish runs 358 meters. Don’t miss our Superbike betting preview for this weekend’s excitement.

Imola hosts WorldSBK for the first time since 2019.

Nicolo Bulega

enters the race leading the rider standings, riding for Ducati on his home course. Stefano Manzi, riding with Ten Kate Racing Yamaha, had a rough go of it in the last round in the U.K. He took second in Race 1, but a crash and a penalty sent him down to fifth place in Race 2. That gave Bulega the chance to push his lead in the rider’s standings to 55 points, which means that he is more than a race clear (50 points maximum). This time around, Manzi has to eat into that points difference after Bulega won both races in the UK. There’s still half the season, but Manzi has to think about damage control now.

MV Agusta

only managed 16 points in the last round, their lowest total in 2023. That dropped them further behind Yamaha for the manufacturers’ championship, and Marcel Schroetter, riding with MV Agusta Reparto Corse, slid to fourth in the riders’ standings. Schroetter crashed in Race 2 and was ruled out medically, so he will have to clear a doctor’s check on Thursday before racing at Imola. If he’s clear, he’ll be gunning for a podium finish. Teammate Bahattin Sofuoglu is now in seventh place in the riders’ standings after Glenn van Strallen, riding with EAB Racing Team. Sofuoglu took pole position at this track in the Italian Supersport 300 two years ago, and also won the second race. He could have an edge with that more recent experience on this track.

Federico Caricasulo

, with Althea RAcing Team, and Raffaele De Rosa, with Orelac Racing VerdNatura, finished on the podium in Imola in 2019, and Lucas Mahias, with Kawasaki Puccetti Racing, made the podium in 2016. Niki Tuuli, riding with Dynavolt Triumph, came in seventh in 2018. That’s the total sum of the riders’ experience in this field in Imola. Will it matter, given how long ago it was? We will see.

Tom Booth-Amos

, riding withMotozoo ME Air Racing, came in sixth in Race 2 in the UK, giving him the lead in the WorldSSP Challenge. Adrian Huertas took fourth place in Race 2. Both of these riders set career bests with those finishes, and momentum can be a powerful thing in this sport.

There are some riders who are uncertain to enter this week. Andrea Mantovani, with Evan Bros. WorldSSP Yamaha Team, crashed Friday in the UK, spraining his left knee and findihg himself declared unfit. Oli Bayliss, with D34G Racing, crashed as well, getting a shoulder contusion. Apiwath Wongthananon, with Yamaha Thailand Racing Team, is a third rider who will have to clear medical checks. Luca Ottaviani will use a wild-card entry with Extreme Racing Service. He raced at Imola in WorldSSP in 2019, finishing 18th. Emanuele Pusceddu will also take a wild-card berth with J.Angel by Edafos.
