College Football Betting Odds: Must Bet Games for Week 2

College Football Betting Odds: Must Bet Games for Week 2

The second week of the college football season doesn’t always have a lot of interesting college football betting matchups. Those teams that did play a tough non-conference opponent in Week 1 will often retrench and use Week 2 to play an FCS opponent or a much weaker FBS team. This often leads to large point spreads. We do have a few intriguing matchups for you to consider, though, if you’re interested in some wagering down the road.

Iowa Hawkeyes at Iowa State Cyclones

When: Saturday, September 9 at 3:30 pm ET
Where: Jack Trice Stadium, Iowa
TV / Streaming: FOX

The Cyclones went through a lot of changes in the off-season. After an offensive season that only saw the team score 20.2 points per game, their worst average since 2007, the only offensive assistant returning in the same position is tight ends coach Taylor Mouser. The team also permitted 20.2 points per game to rank 18th in the nation. They do have tailback Jirehl Brock, who put up 445 yards on 99 carries last year before injuries ended his year. He ran the ball 27 times for 100 yards in Iowa State’s win over the Hawkeyes last year and caught five passes out of the backfield. Iowa State won this game last year and looks to make it two straight in this rivalry for the first time since 2011-12. Iowa State to win.

Nebraska Cornhuskers at Colorado Buffaloes

When: Saturday, September 9 at 12:00 pm ET
Where: Folsom Field, Colorado
TV / Streaming: FOX

The Cornhuskers enter the Matt Rhule era after the coach who turned Temple around, did well with Art Briles’ players at Baylor long enough to snag an NFL job, and then cratered in Carolina, tries yet again. Key transfers include Jeff Sims, formerly the quarterback at Georgia Tech. The secondary and linebacker unit should be strong for incoming DC Tony White. They visit a Colorado team that might very well enter on the momentum of a Week 1 upset win at TCU. Rhule does have a reputation for building strong defenses at the collegiate level, so Colorado’s offense might have a tougher time moving the ball than they did against TCU. Colorado to win.

Ole Miss Rebels at Tulane Green Wave

When: Saturday, September 9 at 3:30 pm ET
Where: Yulman Stadium, New Orleans
TV / Streaming: ESPN2

Ole Miss starts 2023 with a laugher against FCS foe Mercer. Their second game represents an actual test, as they visit the Tulane Green Wave, who beat USC in the Cotton Bowl last year, 46-45, to finish with a 12-2 record. Junior quarterback Michael Pratt runs after throwing for 3,009 yards and posting a 27:5 TD:INT ratio, but Tulane does need to find a new tailback after Tyjae Spears left for the draft. Spears led Tulane with 1,581 rushing yards last year, and Iverson Celestine and Shaadie Clayton-Johnson will try to fill his shoes. Ole Miss beat Tulane at home by 40 points in 2021, but this game should be much closer. Tulane to win.

Texas Longhorns at Alabama Crimson Tide

When: Saturday, September 9 at 8:00 pm ET
Where: Bryant–Denny, Tuscaloosa
TV / Streaming: ESPN

The Longhorns almost pulled off the upset at home last year, which would have made Alabama’s 2022 season a three-loss nightmare. Bryce Young basically put the Alabama offense on his back and led the team to a comeback victory, but now the Crimson Tide enter a season in which they are looking up at Georgia in the SEC. Texas has not won a conference title since 2009 and would like to prove that they belong in the SEC. Alabama to win.
