NASCAR 2019 Bojangles Southern 500 Odds & Betting Preview

Darlington Raceway is the site for this weekend’s 2019 Bojangles Southern 500. As usual, this Labor Day affair features throwback paint schemes on almost all of the cars, racing on one of the most storied tracks in stock car racing. Darlington has hosted races on its 1.366-mile track for 65 years, and such venerable racers as Jeff Gordon, David Pearson, Cale Yarborough, Dale Earnhardt and Richard Petty have run here. The oval is called “Too Tough to Tame” because of the unique difficulties of the track. You can catch the action on NBC Sports starting at 5pm Eastern time on Sunday, with radio coverage on MRN and SiriusXM NASCAR Radio. We have the NASCAR odds and suggestions for your sports betting cards.

Denny Hamlin

Hamlin has really rebounded this season, winning twice in his last four races and with six straight top-five finishes, giving him a torrid run of racing since the Quaker State 400. He has won the Bojangles’ Southern 500 twice already and also has five career victories at the Darlington Raceway as part of the NASCAR Xfinity Series. In his last seven starts at this event, he has five top-five finishes, so he’s definitely someone to consider.

Kyle Busch

Busch has cooled off a bit as far as wins go, but he is regularly cracking the top ten. He won the Bojangles’ Southern 500 back in 2008 and came in second two years ago. In his last seven races at the Darlington Raceway, he has six top-seven finishes, and he also has a pair of wins here as part of the NASCAR Xfinity Series.

Chase Elliott

Elliot has strung together three quality races in a row, including a victory. At the Darlington Raceway, he has made four starts, with two finishes in the top ten. He came in fifth at this race in 2018, and he won the 2014 Sport Clips Haircuts VFW 200 here. This would be his third win of the year, and while he does not have as much experience here as others, his form is solid, making him a likable dark horse.

Kevin Harvick

Harvick had a disappointing race his last time out — but the last time he didn’t make the top 20, he won the next week. He won the Bojangles’ Southern 500 five years ago and has six straight top-ten finishes at this race, averaging a finish of 4.3 over that time frame. He only has two wins in 2019, well behind his usual haul, so a win here would not be surprising at all.

Joey Logano

Logano is starting to slip a little bit on the odds list because of his four consecutive finishes outside the top 10. He came in second at the Bojangles’ Southern 500 a year ago, and he has three top-five finishes at this race in his last four starts. This track is one that has been friendly to him as part of the NASCAR Xfinity Series, including a victory seven years ago in the Sport Clips Haircuts VFW 200. It’s about time for him to get back into form.
