2018 Mayakoba Golf Classic Odds & Preview

Written by on November 7, 2018

The penultimate event in the fall PGA Tour schedule is set for this weekend, as El Camaleon Golf Course at Mayakoba Resort in Mexico will host the Mayakoba Golf Classic. This tournament has been on the fall schedule since 2013, and it has historically been the site of low scores. Jordan Spieth, Tony Finau and Rickie Fowler are the top players in the field of 128, and Patton Kizzire returns to defend his 2017 title here. The scoring average in 2017 was 70.32, but there are plenty of hazards on the course waiting for those relying on drivers to get them down the fairway. Players with solid iron play and short games do well here. We have your golf odds for the contenders as well as some suggestions for you to consider on your wager card.

Despite the fact that Rickie Fowler is at the top of the odds list, he has cracked the top 10 in three straight tournaments, and he finished 17 under par at the Shriners Hospitals for Children Open last week. There are few golfers playing as well as Fowler is right now, and he played well at this tournament in 2017, coming in second, so he’s definitely worth considering.

Gary Woodland has finished -14 or better in three straight tournaments, and in the young season he is eighth in greens in regulation percentage, sixth in scoring average and second in birdie average. He was the runner-up two years ago, and sitting at +2000, he presents considerable value to go along with that track record.

Emiliano Grillo was the runner-up at the CIMB Classic, finishing 21 under par, and he has finished under par in four consecutive events. Grillo has also finished in the top ten both times he has played at the Mayakoba Golf Classic.

Scott Piercy is sixth in driving accuracy percentage and has finished an average of 13 under par over his last three tournaments. The Mayakoba Golf Classic has been a solid tournament for him; he finished fourth here in 2017, and he has finished in the top 20 three times in his last five starts here. He offers a lot of value for someone with this history here.

Charles Howell III has taken some time off since the CJ Cup, but he has played well at the Mayakoba Golf Classic, cracking the top 10 in three of his last five appearances here, including fourth-place results in 2016 and 2017. He’s way down the odds sheet here, but dark horses often shine brightly in the fall.

Patton Kizzire is a real dark horse here, but he did win his first PGA Tour victory in 2017 at this tournament, surviving a furious rally from Fowler to win by a single stroke. On the last day, which featured 36 holes due to rain earlier in the weekend, he went 62-70 in those two rounds to take the tournament. Returning to the site of his first victory could be the ticket for a repeat performance — and for a massive payout for you.
