2019 Barbasol Championship Odds, Preview & Predictions

For those PGA Tour golfers who did not qualify for The Open Championship across the pond, another opportunity awaits at The Champions Course at Keene Trace in Kentucky, with the 2019 Barbasol Championship. A field of 132 golfers will get underway on Thursday, with many of the field outside the top 125 in the FedExCup standings, meaning that their PGA Tour status for 2020 could be on the line as the last few tournaments of the regular season begin to loom ahead. We have your golf odds for the contenders in a wide-open field as well as some thoughts about the course and some wager card suggestions.

2019 Barbasol Championship Odds, Preview & Predictions

The course runs just over 7,300 yards and is a par-72. This is the second year for this tournament at Keene Trace, and the routing has been reversed, meaning that the back nine and front nine have been switched. This was done because holes 7 and 9 were the most difficult in 2018, and now they become 16 and 18. The scoring here should be low; last year, Keene Trace was the fourth easiest course on the PGA Tour. It is the par 5 holes on this course, as the field averaged a score of 17.99 on the four par 5 holes. That means who you have to birdie two par 5s each round and play the rest of the course at even par, just to have an average score.

Who Should You Take into Consideration in your 2019 Barbasol Championship Picks?

Peter Malnati ranks second in the field if you combine PGA Tour rankings in strokes gained: around the green, strokes gained: putting, birdies or better gained, strokes gained: scrambling, proximity: 175-200 yards and par efficiency: 350-400 yards, based on his last 50 rounds. He has not missed a cut since the Wells Fargo Championship back in May. He has wins on the PGA Tour and could take the trophy in this soft field. Brian Stuard won the 2016 Zurich Class of New Orleans in 2016, its last year as an individual tournament. He ranks fifth in those six stats combined above and is tops in the field in efficiency on short par 4s. He has three top-10 finishes on the PGA Tour this season. Matt Jones was ranked as high as 41st in the world at one point. He has dropped to 205th, but he has played in 14 majors and cracked the top 10 at the AT&T Byron Nelson earlier in 2019. He is the top player if you combine those six statistical metrics — and he offers a ton of value. Peter Uihlien has had some tough luck in 2019, including a disqualification due to an incorrect scorecard. He is in the top 10 of this field in scrambling and putting, and he has a chance to shock the field this week.

Dominic Bozzelli (+12500) is the fourth best putter in this field over the last 50 rounds. His approach and tee-to-green games have not been solid lately, but on an easy course like this, and with a soft field, he could catch fire. David Lingmerth (+12500) has one win on the PGA Tour, back in 2015 at the Memorial inHouston. He finished 12th at the U.S. Open in 2016 but only has four majors since then and sits a 614th in the world. He has made just three cuts in seven events this year, but he is in the top 15 in strokes gained: around the green and in birdies or better gained.
