2019 Charles Schwab Challenge Odds & Betting Preview

2019 Charles Schwab Challenge Odds & Betting Preview

Brooks Koepka almost gave away a huge lead at the PGA Championship last week at Bethpage Black, and now the PGA quiets down a bit, moving down to Texas, at Fort Worth’s Colonial Country Club, for the 2019 Charles Schwab Challenge. The field is just 122 golfers, rather than the customary 156, because only invited golfers can come. That means that more golfers will make the top-70 and ties to play for money on the weekend. We have your golf betting odds for the contenders as well as suggestions for your wager cards.

2019 Charles Schwab Challenge Odds & Betting Preview

  • When: May 23 – May 26
  • Where: Colonial Country Club, Fort Worth, TX
  • TV: Golf Channel / CBS
  • Live Stream: Golf.tv
This tournament has taken place at Colonial Country Club each year since 1946; the winner gets a jacket, just like at the Masters, but it is a vibrant plaid, rather than green. The course is a par 70, approximately, 7,200 yards in length. The fairways are lined with trees, and thanks to the fact that the dirt is usually firm, you don’t need a driver to get well down the fairway — but you do need to be accurate. This tournament has the lowest Eagle Rate of any event on the PGA Tour since 2014, and it is tough with regard to birdie rate as well.

Emiliano Grillo

Grillo had a terrific PGA Championship, cracking the top 25 on a difficult course. That was his best result since the Sony Open in Hawaii. In each of his last three appearances at Colonial Country Club, his performances have improved, with a third-place finish coming last year. He has said in interviews that he enjoys this course. Given the strong value here, he’s definitely someone to consider.

Jordan Spieth

Spieth has been on an extended slump, but he emerged from the PGA Championship last week with a third-place finish. He finally seems to have the confidence back that drove him in his early PGA career. He won the Fort Worth Invitational at Colonial Country Club in 2016 and came in second in 2015 and 2017. With the lighter field, he should be right there at the end — and the value is solid here.

Louis Oosthuizen

Oosthuizen is another dark horse who you should think about backing. He has five missed cuts since September, and he has failed to crack the top 50 in five of his last eight events. However, Colonial Country Club has been kind to him; he came in fifth at this event in 2018, and he has made the cut here three times overall.

Justin Rose

Rose is the co-favorite thanks to his status as the defending champion; in 2018, he beat Brooks Koepka here by three strokes. He has made the cut in all five of his appearances at Colonial Country Club. He didn’t play well last week, but he has five top-ten finishes in his last six tournaments coming after a tournament when he finished below the top 20. So expect him to be a major player this week.
