The Court

The Country Club of Jackson will run 7,421 yards as a Par 72, and the greens will feature Bermuda grass. This is the ninth longest course on the PGA Tour, with the average driving distance somewhat shorter here than on the average PGA Tour course. The four par 5s account for a great deal of the distance, with three over 550 yards and the 18th hole also exceeding 500 yards. The fairways here are narrow, as players hit them in regulation 11 percent less than the Tour average. The most common approach shot comes from over 200 yards, so long irons come into play here as well.

Emiliano Grillo

Grillo leads the field in strokes gained: approach the green for his last six tournaments, and he has also gained strokes using his irons in nine of ten tournaments, averaging three strokes gained per tournament. In the 2018-19 season, Grillo missed the cut just three times; his Achilles heel is his putting, as in those three missed cuts he lost over 10 strokes after reaching the green. His fall record is impressive, with a win at the 2015 Safeway Open and top-ten finishes at the 2016 and 2017 OHL Classics at Mayakoba.

Aaron Wise

Wise ranked in the top 35 in driving distance last year, and he will bring that big driver to the par 5’s in Jackson this week. He ranks first among this week’s field in par 5 scoring percentage and second in birdie or better gained over his last 24 rounds.

Cameron Tringale

Tringale shot three rounds in the 60s, but it was the outlier that left him in a tie for 36th, as he only hit 69 percent of his greens in regulation and just over half of his fairways. He gained less than a stroke with his putter, but his form has been solid for several months now. Going into last week’s tournament at Greenbrier, Tringale was in the top 15 in strokes gained: approach the green, in the top 20 for par 5 scoring average and first on the tour in birdie or better gained over his last six events.

Wes Roach

Roach gained strokes through approach in four of his last five events going into the Sanderson Farms tournament and is now 13th in strokes gained: approach the green. He is having a hard time putting on Bermuda greens, sliding down to 63rd in strokes gained: putting in his last 24 rounds. However, his iron game is so accurate that this course still feels like a natural for him.
