Top Friday MLB Betting Picks & Predictions

As we head into the weekend and you consider what MLB betting choices you want to line up for Friday, we’ve picked out three matchups for you to consider. The Los Angeles Angels head to Boston for a weekend series with the Red Sox, the Colorado Rockies take on the Los Angeles Dodgers in a crucial National League West series, and Detroit heads to San Diego for an interleague series over the weekend.

Top Friday MLB Betting Picks & Predictions

L.A. Angels at Boston (7:10pm ET, FSW / NESN / MLB Network)

When: Friday, June 23, 7:10 PM ET Where: Fenway Park, Boston MLB Betting Lines: Red Sox at -159 / Angels +139 The Angels (37-38) start Alex Meyer on Friday night, and he has pitched quite well for the Halos lately. In his last four starts, he has pitched a combined 22 ⅔ innings, permitting just three earned runs and a single home run. He has only won one of those starts, but that has a lot more to do with the bullpen and the L.A. offense than his pitching. He has fanned 27 batters over that stretch. Los Angeles continues to alternate wins and losses, including an 8-4 loss in New York against the Yankees on Wednesday night. Can Meyer get them back on track? Or will the Angels’ offense not be able to produce enough to help him?

Who Will Pitch for Boston?

The Red Sox (40-32) send Rick Porcello to the hill. Hopes were high in Boston when the Red Sox signed him away from the Detroit Tigers, but this season has been a struggle for the former ace. He has permitted a .358 average to opposing hitters over his last eight starts — including a .385 average on fastballs. No pitcher who has thrown more than 400 fastballs since May 12 is permitting a higher batting average on balls put in play against the heater. The Red Sox dropped two of three in Kansas City and head home to face the Angels on Friday night. Can the Red Sox get a winning streak going to build a lead in the AL East over the Yankees? I think the Angels will hit Porcello hard, and Meyer will be able to manage the Boston offense. I predict a 5- 3 win for the Halos.

Colorado at L.A. Dodgers (10:10pm ET, RTRM / SNLA)

When: Friday, June 23, 10:10 PM ET Where: Dodger Stadium, L.A. MLB Betting Lines: Dodgers at -200 / Rockies at +170 The Colorado Rockies (47-27) saw a six-game winning streak come to a crashing halt on Wednesday out in Arizona, as the Diamondbacks stacked up 10 runs in the fourth inning to roll to a 16-5 win. The Rockies are in a stretch with nine of 12 coming against the Diamondbacks and Dodgers, so they have a chance to make some real distance in the National League West. On Friday night, the Rockies start Kyle Freeland, who makes his third outing against the Dodgers this season. He hasn’t lasted that long in each game (a combined 10 innings), but the Rockies have won both meetings.

Who Will Take the Mound for LA?

The Dodgers (47-26) start Alex Wood, who has a 7-0 record, the first Dodger pitcher to make it 10 starts without a loss since Orel Hershiser did it back in 1985. The Dodgers are riding a six- game winning streak. The last three have all been over the Mets, by a combined score of 30-8. Given how the Los Angeles offense has been clicking, and given Freeland’s lack of durability in his prior stars against them, I see the Dodgers rolling to a win in this series opener, 4-1. The Tigers is a favorite MLB betting pick against the Padres.

Detroit at San Diego (10:10pm ET, FSSD / FSDT)

When: Friday, June 23, 10:10 PM ET Where: Petco Park, San Diego MLB Betting Lines: Tigers at -137 / Padres at +117 The San Diego Padres (29-44) send Luis Perdomo to the mound for Friday night’s series opener. Despite that unsightly 1.4 record, he has put together four quality starts in his last five outings. His last start featured six innings against Milwaukee, in which he permitted just a pair of runs. Batters hit ground balls off him 64 percent of the time. San Diego just snapped a three-game skid by winning at Wrigley on Wednesday, 3-2, on the strength of a bases-loaded walk by Luis Torrens in the top of the eighth inning.

Who Will Start the Series for Detroit?

The Tigers (32-39) start Michael Fulmer, who is looking for his seventh win of the season. He had struggled with bursitis in his throwing shoulder, but he seems to have left them behind, as he threw 6 ⅔ strong innings at home on Saturday, with his fastball hitting 98 on the gun. He has started five games on the West Coast in his career, and he has produced five quality starts in all of them. The Tigers are mired in a five-game losing streak, including a 7-5 setback in Seattle on Wednesday night. Can they turn things around in San Diego? I see the Padres prevailing in this one, 4-3.
