Updated 2020 College Basketball Championship Odds – August 20th Edition

One of the most difficult futures wagers in sports betting involves picking the national champion in men’s college basketball. Many times, the top-rated team does not end up winning the title thanks to an upset along the way in the single-elimination bracket. If you think about Virginia, who entered the 2018 tournament as a 1-seed only to lose to Maryland-Baltimore County in historic fashion and who entered the 2019 tournament as a 1-seed and trailed at the half in their opener, only to win the whole thing, then you see that the road to the title is a bumpy one indeed. We have the latest odds for the contenders to win the national championship at next spring’s March Madness as well as some early thoughts about some of the teams.

Updated 2020 College Basketball Championship Odds – August 20th Edition

Michigan State

  • 2020 College Basketball Championship: +600
Nick Ward left East Lansing to go into the NBA draft early, but their other premier players stayed, including Cassius Winston. Xavier Tillman and Joshua Langford (healthy again) also return, and recruits including Aaron Henry make the Spartans look like one of the top teams in the nation.

Kentucky

  • 2020 College Basketball Championship: +1000
Ashton Hagans, Immanuel Quickley, E.J. Montgomery and Nick Richards all return for the Wildcats — an unusual phenomenon given the one-and-done reputation of the school — and Tyrese Maxey and Kahlil Whitney are the top of a solid recruiting class.

Duke

  • 2020 College Basketball Championship: +1000
Zion Williamson, Cam Reddish and R.J. Barrett are gone, but Tre Jones returns to distribute the ball, and the Blue Devils could start four true freshmen. Vernon Carey Jr and Matthew Hurt are two blue-chip recruits who will bang on the boards.

Memphis

  • 2020 College Basketball Championship: +1200
The Tigers might be a little overrated, especially since Rayjon Tucker decided to head to the NBA. Recruit James Wiseman will contribute mightily, and Precious Achiwa will also likely spend just one year in Memphis before leaving for a first-round pick in the NBA draft. However, the Tigers need shooters — and they don’t have a reputation for doing well in the postseason.

Kansas

  • 2020 College Basketball Championship: +1200
Devon Dotson and Udoka Azubuike return to lead a Jayhawks team that looks to start another string of regular-season Big 12 titles. Silvio De Sousa, Ochai Agbaji and Marcus Garrett are all complementary players who will make Kansas more difficult this year.

North Carolina

  • 2020 College Basketball Championship: +1600
Cole Anthony might be the top point guard in all of college basketball. However, North Carolina lost five of their six top players, so depth could be an issue.

Villanova

  • 2020 College Basketball Championship: +1600
The Wildcats have Bryan Antoine and Jeremiah Robinson-Earl coming in as five-star recruits to join a squad that has a considerable amount of experience after a down season.

Gonzaga

  • 2020 College Basketball Championship: +2000
Can Killian Tillie stay healthy for a full season? He hasn’t yet, and without him, the Bulldogs will not make the Final Four, let alone win a title, and they might not make the Final Four even with him.

Oregon

  • 2020 College Basketball Championship: +2000
Anthony Mathis is transferring in from New Mexico to play shooting guard, and he could be a terrific piece alongside Payton Pritchard.

Virginia

  • 2020 College Basketball Championship: +2000
This team seems a little disrespected, because their defense will be stout. Kihei Clark will do a solid job on the point, and Jay Huff, Mamadi Diakite and Braxton Key return as a trio who can dominate both ends of the floor.

Other Contenders to Win the 2020 College Basketball Championship

  • Texas Tech, Maryland, Ohio State +2500
  • Arizona +3000
  • Tennessee, Auburn, Florida, Seton Hall +4000
  • Michigan, Baylor +5000
  • Houston, Purdue +6000
  • LSU, VCU, Washington +8000
  • Arizona State, West Virginia +10000
  • Utah State +20000
You might be surprised to see Utah State with this much value. They went 28-7 last year, and they have Sam Merrill, who got consideration for All-America status last year and will again. They also have a center who stands 6’11” as well as Neemias Queta, who looks to go in the NBA draft. They could crack the top 15 this season, if not even higher, and with this much value they are definitely worth considering on your card.
